Veronica's Room is a two act play written in 1973 by Ira Levin.

The play begins when a young couple Susan and Larry accompany an older couple to a house where the elderly couple have a request to ask of Susan. Their employer Cissie has become delusional as she dies from cancer. They wish her to dress up as Cissie's late sister Veronica in order to grant her some kind moment in her last days. Susan agrees but when she finds herself locked in the room alone she begins to wonder what is really going on.

What goes on is a laundry list of twists that reveal she has landed in the middle of a very complicated family.

Tropes:

  • All There in the Script: Averted in that the four roles are only named Man, Younger Man, Woman and Girl as revealing their real names would have spoiled the story.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: The murderous family kills Susan and Veronica insists they do it again.
  • Brother–Sister Incest: The reveals come out that Veronica started having a sexual relationship with her younger brother Conrad and has continued on to the present day and they even had a son.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": Veronica and Conrad apparently chose to name their baby boy, Boy.
  • Gaslighting: Veronica and Conrad pretend to be their parents to force Susan to go along with their play to the point of acting as if she's the crazy one to think its actually 1973 and she is Susan.
  • Sibling Murder: Veronica murdered Cissie because she saw her two siblings having sex.
  • Siblings in Crime: Veronica, Conrad and their son, Boy become a murderous trio to let Veronica act out her fantasies.
