  • While Worms games don't take war as a topic seriously, Wormsongs attached to them treat it the other way around, with lyrics often dedicating time to explain just how bad the situation is.
    • Part of Boggy B's backstory is the fact that his father became a fodder for the battlefields and never came back. Then in Wormsong 2011, he gets help from a bypassing plane and recognizes his dad in a cockpit. However, his hopes of any possible reunion are shattered by his general, who tells him "Why son, we've no planes, don't be modest! You'll go far!" Boggy B is left wondering if he just hallucinated the whole thing, is his dad still alive, and will they see each other again.
    • In Wormsong 1999, Boggy B himself bites the dust. Song's vocalist rubs it in even further, asking "how many more will this dreaded war cost?"
    • The way worms sing "'Til the end" during chorus really sells it. It has this forlorn, wistful quality to it that suggests they really just wish it was all over, or that they know "'Til the end" means "Until we're gone too", as no matter how bad things get, how long it lasts, and how many of them die, those little guys will keep on fighting.
We are Worms, we're the best, and we've come to win the war,
We'll stand, we'll never run, stay until it's done,
Though our friends may fall and our world be blown apart,
We'll strike with all our might, we'll fight for what is right,
      'Til the end.
  • While cutscenes tend to be humorous, one such from Worms: Open Warfare 2 sticks out as almost tear-inducing. It has two worms ending up being launched on a rocket. One of them has difficulty holding on, and the other one tries to give him a hand, but to no avail. Then the rocket itself crashes in the desert and blows up.
