• The death of the black cats. Despite being Nightmare Fuel for the whole of the first book, when the first one is killed by having its collar torn, the second goes up to it, nudges it gently, and instead of fighting back, offers Varjak it's own collar. A true case of Cry for the Devil.
• Crossing over with Nightmare Fuel, learning what happens to the Vanished cats.
