- The death of Paris Carver, left in her bed for Bond to see. Cartwright Curse all over again.
- Stamper might be a ruthless henchman, but he's still moved by the death of Dr. Kaufmann, who was "like a father" to him.
- The sinking of the Devonshire, especially when the drill moves through the ship, and when the captain ultimately gives the order to abandon ship.
- The deaths of the handful of sailors who managed to escape the doomed vessel when they are executed by Stamper. One moment they think they're about to be rescued; the next they're condemned to die an even more brutal fate than that of their drowned comrades.
