Tear Jerker / The Wall

  • "Hey You", "Comfortably Numb", "When the Tigers Broke Free", "Is There Anybody Out There?" and many more tear jerkers are on this album.
  • In the live tour, the footage of soldiers being reunited with their children in "Vera" and the memorial images of people who'd died in wars during the first half of the show are bound to have the audience in tears.
  • "Mother".
  • "Goodbye Blue Sky". Marks the end of childhood innocence, but also reminds the audience that wounds in the past can linger on into the present. And the melancholy singing helps...
  • "I've got a strong urge to fly, but I've got nowhere to fly to..." Hell, just "Nobody Home" in general.
  • When Waters sings, "Some stagger and fall", he's referring to the friends he's lost because they just had enough of his bullshit and couldn't handle him anymore.
  • In the film, the scene with little Pinky alone on the playground, watching the other kids playing with their loving fathers. At the end, he actually tries to grab one of the leaving fathers by the arm to go home with them, and is predictably shooed away. Similarly, the later scene on the train depot, again with children reuniting with their fathers and Pinky being all alone.
  • The line "The child is grown, the dream is gone" from "Comfortably Numb". It really drives home how much shit Pink has been through.
  • Pink's situation in "Hey You", as he realizes that building the wall and cutting himself off from the world was the worst mistake he could have ever made.
    "But it was only fantasy.
The wall was too high, as you can see.
No matter how he tried, he could not break free.
And the worms ate into his brain."
  • "Another Brick in the Wall (Part I)", especially for those who lost parents at a young age.
  • The film changes some of Pink's characterization so that he's not abusive to his wife, nor does he cheat (or at least is seen doing so) on his wife at any point, but is emotionally and mentally distant from her. And it's shown that his wife does reach out to him, and does try to remain intimate with him, but he's too disconnected to even comprehend it. Before she goes and cheats, there is a shot of her smoking a cigarette with tears on her face, and it is shown that when Pink calls, she does consider picking up the phone, with a rather regretful look on her face. This makes their relationship's downfall more tragic than it was in the album, due to Poor Communication Kills.
    • Before walking out, she tells him 'Hey, remember me from the registry office?' It's a tremendously sad line implying he just completely shut down some point after they were married and it's heavily suggested they're barely talking at all anymore.
  • One interpretation of the Wife's line in the Trial, "You should've talked to me more often than you did" is that she would have tried to help him if he'd just opened up to her a little more. Of course, he didn't and the consequences were dire.
