Tear Jerker / The Nutty Professor (1996)

• The scene in the first film when Sherman is being picked on by the comedian Reggie. We pan into Sherman's hurt face and sad music plays. Anybody who was ever bullied would know what that feels like.
• His binge eating after that is also incredibly sad. He's turning to Comfort Food after his failure of a date and, judging by the tears in his eyes, it's not helping.
  • While binge eating, Sherman is watching a Lance Perkins video where he's trying to comfort an obese woman who is in tears while talking about how she went on a date with a frat boy, who only asked her out so he could take her to his frat house that was a having a party called "Pig Day," where the boys all brought obese dates just to fat shame them. Frat boys can be so cruel.
• The ending has Sherman giving a speech at the ball, right after he has exposed himself as being Buddy Love. Every word spoken is full of guilt, yet it also highlights how he has chosen to be himself, even if there will be hardships associated with it. To twist the knife further, his mother and father are in attendance and are visibly saddened by their son’s ordeal.
  Sherman: If you give me a moment, I believe I can try to explain. My research is, um... well, when I started out, I wanted to help people. But I became desperate and selfish. What I did was wrong. Buddy's who I thought the whole world wanted me to be. He's who I thought I wanted to be. And sometimes when you want something so so bad, you do just about anything to get it. But I learned one thing from Buddy. I learned that life isn't about being happy with how much you weigh, but just being happy with yourself. I'm terribly sorry about all of this, I hope I haven't ruined everybody's evening. Please excuse me. I'm sorry.
