Tear Jerker / The Love Boat

• The original backstory of Vicki, who was born of an earlier romance between the Captain and a woman named Georgina. The two had lost track of each other for several years until a chance meeting when Georgina's sister is a passenger on the MS Pacific Princess and brings Vicki along. The Captain initially isn't ready to accept Vicki but realizes she needs a strong father figure in her life now that her mother is dead.
• "A Valentine Voyage," the last original movie from the original series, where a major plotline has Captain Stubbing and Vicki mourning the death of Emily, his wife and stepmother, respectively. The Captain and his lady had married at the end of the weekly series, and Emily was a prominent character in the three follow-up movies airing on ABC during the 1986-1987 movie; shortly before the events of "A Valentine Voyage," Emily passes away suddenly, and the Captain is having a difficult time coming to terms with her death, and Vicki – who was initially slow to accept Emily but eventually does – also has her own grief to deal with. Father and daughter eventually lean on each other to cope, and it is when the Captain returns to Bermuda (where he and Emily honeymooned) that he is able to finally let go of his grief.
