Series (Amazon Prime's The Family Man)

Warning: Spoilers are unmarked.

Season 1

  • Moosa's backstory. His whole family was slaughtered during the Gujrat riots of 2002 and only he and his mother survived. When we finally see his mother, she is working as a cleaning lady and one half of her face is burnt.
  • The lynching of two innocent Muslim men by a mob that accuses them of carrying beef in their trucks. To make it worse, they were actually carrying lamb.
  • The Karim Batt arc. Karim and his friends had planned to feed beef to the Minister who was responsible for inciting the mob that lynched the two Muslim men. They are shot down by T.A.S.C. and Force One who believe that he was planning a terror attack. Even after T.A.S.C. realises its mistake, it covers up its failure by issuing a statement that Karim and his friends were terrorists.
  • The fight between Srikant and Suchi after Srikant returns home drunk following the Karim Batt incident. Srikant accuses Suchi of having an affair - which he probably would not have done if he had been sober. Suchi is rightly disgusted and calls him out for his insecurity. Srikant twists her words into meaning that she thinks him a loser. It's actually Srikant who at that moment feels like he is a loser because he is devastated about the massive error of judgment that resulted in Karim and his friends' death.
  • Srikant's call to Kulkarni asking how he (and T.A.S.C.) are any different from the terrorists. It is clear that Srikant is struggling to cope with Karim's death and he is fighting back tears as he speaks.
  • Pasha's death.
  • Vaibhav Tharani's manipulation and murder by Moosa and Sajid. They find out he is gay, obtain footage of him having sex with a man, threaten to expose this to his wife unless he does what they ask him to do, and then kill him once he has done that.

Season 2

  • Bhaskaran's grief at his brother Subbu's death. Subbu was the only family he had left - as his wife and sons had previously been killed by the Sri Lankan Army. To make it worse, Bhaskaran had asked Subbu to surrender - thinking that he would then negotiate with India to get him out safely. The poor man must blame himself because he believes that the Indian Government has now assassinated Subbu.
  • Raji's miserable existence at the start of Season 2. Her boss at the factory harasses her and she is groped by a man on the bus. Once she is home she sits down in front of the TV on the bare floor to eat her supper alone.
  • Raji when she finds out about Subbu's assassination and plans to commit suicide. She dons her LTTE uniform, chants the slogan, and is about to bite the cyanide capsule. Even at the moment when she has lost all hope, her only identity is that of a solder for the LTTE cause.
  • The impact of the nerve gas on Milind and Zoya. Zoya is now confined to a wheelchair and has breathing difficulties. Milind has recovered physically but has a guilt complex over what happened to Zoya.
  • Srikant and Suchi's fight during what was meant to be a romantic dinner to celebrate Suchi's birthday. Suchi tells her that she wants a break from their marriage and leaves the table - and Srikant is left alone as the waiters arrive with a special cake that he had meant as a surprise for Suchi.
  • Dhriti's lashing out at both her parents because of her sadness that they are essentially separated and fear that they will divorce.
  • Srikant trying repeatedly to call Dhriti and Dhriti refusing to pick up his calls.
  • Raji's backstory. Her father was killed in an airstrike and the rest of her family murdered. She was then gang-raped by so many men that she lost count. She was just 15 when this happened.
  • Milind's death:
    • JK and Srikant's reactions. JK knows at once that Milind is gone but Srikant tries to perform CPR and then slumps against the wall helplessly when he realises that it is useless.
    • The scene right after when Srikant instinctively calls Suchi's phone and Suchi answers but he can't speak because he is crying. He then pretends that nothing's wrong and hangs up but continues to cry.
    • Kulkarni telling Srikant over phone that he has just spoken to Milind's parents. Kulkarni - who is always suave and composed - looks distressed and it is clear that the conversation has not been easy.
    • The remaining T.A.S.C. officers honouring Milind. Muthu switches on the old Hindi songs that Milind liked to listen to on the radio, they set aside a glass of whiskey at his desk and then all raise their glasses to him.
  • Dhriti's kidnapping:
    • Suchi's anxiousness about Dhriti taking so long to get back home, which turns into dread once she realises that something had gone wrong.
    • Srikant's expression when he realises that Dhriti has been kidnapped.
    • The meeting between Suchi and Srikant when he returns home. They have barely spoken since their fight and the last time they were on the phone he blamed her for Dhriti going missing. Suchi just crumples and slumps into Srikant's arms as he holds and comforts her.
    • Dhriti's ordeal at her abductor's house. Her hands are tied and her feed are chained and she is slapped across the face by Syed. She screams for her mum and dad.
    • The phone call between Dhriti and her parents from the kidnapper's place - especially when Dhriti tells Suchi that she loves her and didn't mean to say the harsh things she said before leaving. Also, Srikant's voice shaking when he tells Dhriti first of all that he loves her.
    • Srikant breaking down briefly when he is alone. It's clear that while he has been staying strong in front of Suchi and the rest of his colleagues, internally he is worried sick about Dhriti.
    • Dhriti's pleas with Kalyan / Salman to help her escape.
    • Kalyan / Salman. The poor boy has obviously been brainwashed by Sajid but he is only a teenager who genuinely loves Dhriti. Ironically, when he frees her out of his love for her, he inadvertently signs his own death warrant.
  • Raji's final evening before her mission. While she is a highly trained soldier who won't be swayed from her task, it is clear that she is aware that this is the last time she is sitting down for a meal. The care with which she puts on her uniform on the morning of the mission shows that she is giving herself a farewell in her own way.
  • Raji's death. Even though she would have known that there was no way she could reach her destination given the damage the plane had suffered, she persisted in taking off and died in a mid-air explosion.
