Tear Jerker / The Cider House Rules

Go To

  • Homer being rejected by many adoptive couples as an infant. The second of which abused him.
  • Curly crying because a couple adopted a little girl over him. And Homer consoles the little boy.
  • Fuzzy's death. He dies watching his favorite movie King Kong. And Dr. Larch cries while listening to the other boys bid the late Fuzzy a good night, as they're unaware of his passing.
  • In the book Wally's father, "Senior" Worthington, has Alzheimer's disease which has been misdiagnosed as alcoholism, and his wife and son hold him in contempt for bizarre behavior he can't help until Homer writes to Dr. Larch and raises an alternate possibility.
Wally cried in the car on the way to the neurologist. "I'm sorry, Pop," he said. But Senior seemed delighted. When the neurologist confirmed Dr. Larch's diagnosis, Senior Worthington was exuberant.
"I have a disease!" he yelled proudly-even happily. It was almost as if someone had announced that he was cured; what he had was quite incurable. "I have a disease!"
What a relief it must have been to him—for a moment, anyway—to learn that he wasn't simply a drunk.
