  • The two-part pilot episode "Legends" has a fiery confrontation between Adam and Grady that swiftly gets physical after Adam learns that Grady tracked him down, not to have the happy reunion he expected, but solely to use Adam as a means to get to Hardin in order to kill him for the deaths of Grady's parents. During the confrontation, Grady unleashes his abandonment issues, while Adam reveals to Grady just how far he went to find the younger man...and how close he came to believing Grady might not be alive.
Grady: (having kicked Adam in the face) That's for leaving me in Da Lat!
    Adam: I didn't have a choice! I had orders!
Grady: Oh, you could have come back for me!
Adam: I DID come back for you!
    Grady: LIKE HELL YOU DID!
Adam: I came back for you, but by the time I got there, you were gone!
Grady: They moved me to an orphanage!
Adam: I checked every orphanage in Da Lat!
Grady: I was in Da Nang!
(beat, as Adam has a stunned expression on his face)
Grady: ...you checked. You checked every orphanage.
Adam: (quietly) Every orphanage. Every hospital...every graveyard.
  • "Remember Me": The episode reveals that Adam's still carrying around a grudge against his adopted father for seemingly abandoning him and shuttling him off to yet another foster home, just when then-preteen Adam had begun to feel a sense of stability and regularity in a family at last. Then, at the very end of the episode comes this conversation with the adopted dad, who's suffering from Alzheimer's at this point and can't recognize Adam...
Dad: You're the policeman who helped me.
    Adam: Yes, sir.
Dad: You have to help me find someone. My son.
    Adam: ...you have a son.
Dad: He's 10 years old. They took him away because my wife left me. They said I couldn't take care of him myself. But I can. I love him. He's all I got. It's just...they won't tell me where they put him. (voice cracks) They won't tell me.
(Adam gives Dad a long look)
Dad: (pleadingly) Help me find him. He's all I got. Help me find him.
(Adam leans forward and embraces Dad)
Adam: (tears running down his face) We'll find him. I promise. We will find him.
