Tear Jerker / Straight Outta Compton

Go To

  • Dr. Dre being informed during the tour that his brother, Tyree, has been killed. The worst part is that just a few scenes ago, Dre was reinforcing his promise that he would get him out to Miami and also repeatedly telling his brother to stay out of trouble. According to a newspaper article about the production, the real Dre had to leave the set during the filming of these scenes, which was implied to be the result of not wanting to open old wounds.
  • Eazy-E finding out that he has AIDS, especially everyone's reactions to his diagnosis. When Eazy is told that his condition is terminal, he's at first clearly in denial and keeps asking about what the treatment is and when he can start. Tomika leaves the hospital room in tears at the stress of it all, and Eazy is left alone in his bed and starts sobbing. When Ren and Yella come to visit, they try to tough it out but eventually have to leave because it is too much to bear. Dre finally visits by the time Eazy is comatose and starts talking to him as casually as he can, even when tears are streaming down his face. The only one who is never shown as visibly distraught is Cube, and even then, that's implied to only be because he can't bear to see his friend in a coma.
  • While it may not bring tears to the eyes, it's a depressing picture with the amount of Police Brutality that the members have to put up with throughout most of the movie. What really rubs salt on the wound is that of all the police officers who harassed them, the cop who was the most hostile towards them was black.
  • Ice Cube getting rousted for "wrong place, wrong time" on his way home from Dre's aunt's house. It's already infuriating the way it happened, but with his parents there? If anyone has ever been through that nerve-wracking experience, you know exactly what Cube is feeling. The anger he shows when the cop gets aggressive with his mother is palpable, and the mere fact that less reserved officers have ended lives in reality for similar "outbursts" makes the whole scene not only sad but nightmarish.
