Tear Jerker / Star Wars Radio Dramas

Go To

  • The destruction of Alderaan is played out much more tragically in the radio drama than it is in the actual movie. Here, Leia desperately begs Tarkin not to blow up her planet as the Death Star gets ready to fire and when the act is done, she weeps for her father and her home (all the more powerful when you consider that in this version we actually get to meet Leia's father and learn how deep a bond the two of them share). As Leia is dragged off the deck, she starts throwing hateful curses at the Imperials.
Leia: Oh, Tarkin... If ever there was a shred of humanity in you or these twisted creatures of yours, it's dead now. You're at war with life itself. You are enemies of the universe! Your Empire is doomed!
  • Likewise, Luke's reaction to the razing of the Lars Homestead, and with it, the murder of his aunt and uncle, is also much more sorrowful and profound than in the movie. Upon coming back to Obi-Wan and the droids with the news of what happened, he is audibly shaken, heartbroken and crying.
    Obi-Wan: Luke? Are you alright?
Luke: The farm...the farm...I could see the smoke on the horizon...everything was gutted...burning...I called out for Uncle Owen...and Aunt Beru...and they didn't answer...
    Obi-Wan: Easy, Luke, easy-
Luke: There was practically nothing left of them! Oh, Ben...they were all I had...the only family I've ever known...and when they needed me...I wasn't there...
