There is still good in him. I know there...

  • Issue #1: Vader journeys to Tatooine, feels that Owen and Beru made Luke weak, and examines his mother's grave.
  • Issue #4: The simple sight of Vader fighting Naboo rebels who were once people he knew and liked as a child. They believe they're avenging Padmé and Anakin, even telling Vader that. Not only that, but the Handmaidens of Amidala condemn him for desecrating Padme's grave.
    • You could easily tell that Vader is genuinely dismayed over having to fight them, from how he remembers his time spent with the people who loved Padme and even cared for him outside of the Jedi, as well as the fact that he left Ric Olie and the former handmaidens alive and as unharmed as he could have let them, even as they are left to lament their failure to keep Vader from what they see as a simple desecration of Padmé's tomb.
      • Vader stabbing Ric Olie in the shoulder. The man could only weakly proclaim his desire to avenge Padme and Anakin, and Vader looks down on Ric with clear remorse, even with his mask covering his face.
      • Vader actually asking the Handmaidens to leave. He almost seems to be close to pleading with them to not make him kill anymore of the people who still loved Padme and him, and is torn up enough that they are able to get a few surprisingly decent shots, while he's hardly even trying to defend himself from their attacks, and when he does dispatch them, he just grips them all with the Force and throws them with minimum force, clearly unable to bring himself to kill them.
  • Issue #5 with what has to be the biggest emotional upheaval in Vader's life. He finally learns that he didn't kill Padmé (at least not directly) and it was the stress of childbirth, the fall of the Republic, and Anakin's Faceā€“Heel Turn that ultimately did her in. More than that were her last words proclaiming that in spite of everything Padme still believed in Anakin and that there was still good in him. The realization of her Undying Loyalty and the fact that she still believed in him till the end absolutely crushed Vader and, per Palpatine's account later, absolutely filled him with grief and regret.
  • Issue #23 shows Sabé in tears as she explains to Darth Vader how she found out he was Anakin. Some of these was when 9-year-old Anakin promises to free his mother.
    • Later in the same issue she introduced him to his old childhood friends Kitster Banai and Wald.
  • Issue #26 while there is a Heartwarming moment, Vader carried an unconscious Sabé. As Sabé looks like Padmé it is much heartbreaking.
