Tear Jerker / Son of the Seven Kingdoms

Go To

  • Cersei cruelly plays on Arya's insecurities, verbally savaging her about her lack of grace and beauty and "ladylike" qualities, affirming she's unworthy to become William's bride because he's already so brilliant and famed she would bring nothing but shame to him. Poor Arya ends up crying.
  • Sansa, who gave Cersei the ammunition she needed for the above moment, realizes she's been played for a fool and told her worst enemy everything she'd need to break her little sister. It's not a good day for her either.
  • Robert's death.
  • Ned's death, in Arya's and William's arms, while he gives his blessings for their future marriage.
    • The procession where Ned is brought back to his people in the North, and Catelyn's despair when she sees her husband's body.
  • William remembers how his father once told him that, his entire life after Lyanna's death, he always felt weighed down by his memories of Lyanna, his wondering whether he would have actually been a good husband to her, and that he might have never been a worthy one.
  • When Arya claims she's there to watch over Will when he's stupid, Tywin remembers Joanna saying him she's there to prevent him from being silly... then he bitterly reflects she's not there anymore.
  • Jon when he cries about Eddard's death, while Serena comforts him and Sam watches on.
  • Myrcella's eavesdropping leading her to learn she's actually a bastard born out of incest, and tearfully asking Tyrion if it's true, thinking William won't love her anymore.
  • Theon when he lets his sister go free, because he doesn't want to fight her.
  • Renly's death: even though he may have wanted to take the throne and that he was being manipulated by the Tyrells, he still cared for his nephew and was worried about him before he died.
  • The death of Khal Drogo, killed by the Mythic Dawn: although he manages to slay three Demora Lords, he succumbs to his wounds, but not before keeping himself alive through sheer willpower to make sure Daenerys is alright.
  • Daenerys' reaction after Farengar reveals he is a member of the Blades.
  • Sheogorath shows Dany how madness runs into her family by making her glimpse the more insane Targaryens (Maegor, Baelor, Aerion) through their victims' eyes (Daena daughter of Aenys, Elaena, Aegon the Unlikely) and tops it off with a vision of Aerys the Mad murdering Rickard and Brandon Stark. The poor girl is left horrified and destroyed by the evidence that yes, she really comes from a family full of monsters.
