Everything's wrong without you...
"I made him feel unwanted, like he was a pest. Now I'm going out of my mind for him..."
Charlie Brown

Oh, God, this movie is going to leave you in tears eventually, no matter what.

  • "Do You Remember Me".
  • "It Changes", which is accompanied by Charlie Brown's deeply moving "I need more 'hellos'" speech, which was taken from the strip.
Charlie Brown: (singing) Someone that you really care about,
Someone that you couldn't live without,
    Severs the ties...

All at once you're all alone and scared,
All those happy memories that you shared,
    Turn to goodbyes...
    • The song is much sadder if you lost a pet, or your loved one has to move away in general.
Charlie Brown: Why can't we get all the people together in the world that we really like, and then just stay together forever? Someone would leave. Someone always leaves. And then we have to say goodbye. I hate goodbyes.
    • The scene where Snoopy finally leaves. As this song plays, Charlie Brown just stands there and stares for a long time.
  • Snoopy's going away party.
    • Despite humorously every farewell gift being a bone, you come to the moment that everyone has dreaded — Charlie Brown's farewell gift to Snoopy. However, Charlie is unable to speak, and just thrusts out his gift, head bowed and remains that way for a very long time. Once Snoopy finally takes the gift, he starts crying to the skies, and Charlie Brown, who's been trying to hold it in the whole time, suddenly follows suit.
    • After that traumatic scene, we are treated to yet another one! Snoopy puts a "For Sale" sign on his dog house, shakes Woodstock's hand very formally and begins to leave. There's a small pause and then suddenly Woodstock cries out and chases after Snoopy, completely sobbing. The two friends share a tearful hug and handshake before Snoopy departs. Immediately followed by the "It Changes" song listed above.
  • The moment Snoopy comes back to settle his affairs, Charlie Brown lodges rapid fire questions at him, and a despondent Snoopy can barely acknowledge him. After typing out his feelings to Charlie Brown, about his reluctant intent to return to the physically frail Lila, Charlie Brown immediately begins to cry, with Snoopy's feeble attempt at comforting him by hugging him, also with tears in his eyes.
  • The somber return of the title song, as Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy and Peppermint Patty all discuss the reasons Snoopy must have left. In the end they all blame themselves for his departure.
Peppermint Patty: You have to agree, he's gone because of me. Maybe I came on too strong for him...
Lucy: Right after our fight, he kissed me and I fainted. I think he must think I think there is something wrong with him...
Linus: He wanted my blanket, but I wouldn't let go. He left because I was hostile and unkind to him...
Charlie Brown: (sheds a Single Tear) I made him feel unwanted, like he was a pest. Now I'm going out of my mind for him...
  • The scenes with Lila in the hospital when she realizes that Snoopy is homesick and won't be going home with her, and when he's saying goodbye to her yet again as both of them cry (before he reluctantly decides to stay when he sees her crying in the window and fears she might relapse if he left for good), are arguably sadder than the goodbye scenes with Charlie Brown. After all, if you're at all aware of Status Quo Is God, you probably know deep down that Snoopy's going to go back to Charlie Brown in the end. But this means Lila... this sweet little girl who's just gotten over a presumably serious illness, who was totally heartbroken when she lost her beloved dog and had no say in giving him up, is going to lose out in the end. You just can't help but feel heartbroken for her.
  • Bit of Fridge Sadness, but how must Lila's cat feel about her owner not being satisfied with the pet she already has, instead obsessing over some dog she only knew for a short time years ago?
