• As if Hiyori dealing with the loss of her father didn't provide enough torture on one's heartstrings, Episode 3 reveals that Koharu's mother and younger brother died in a car accident when she was young. During the camping trip in the episode, Hiyori sees Koharu's father playing and taking care of Koi's younger brothers and realizes that he's reminded of his own dead son. At the end of the episode, Hiyori worries that her father wouldn't recognize her in the years since his death, but Koharu tells her that, as long as they keep their smiles, that "your papa and my mama" would still recognize them.
• In Episode 5, it's revealed that Futaba's reasoning for not wanting to fish is that because the girls in her class outcasted her for playing more with the boys, implying the only reason she was doing so was because she liked them. The weight of others is so great on Futaba that it drives her to tears.
  "If I- if I'm not like everyone else, then they'll all hate me."
