Tear Jerker / Savageland

  • Just the tone of the movie: Instead of focusing on the tragedy and the glaring signs that what murdered the townsfolk was something else, everyone sans Salazar and those with common sense immediately use it for their own agenda. Even Ross, who's supposedly the "good guy" in the journalism world, turns the tragedy into a soapbox on how it was motivated by racism.
  • The simple fact that many people who had loved ones in Sangre de Christo never got to see them again, leaving them both confused and devastated.
    • Add to it: children were killed in the massacre makes it just more tragic. A section of the film is dedicated to their relatives reminiscing about them, and it's one of the hardest parts to watch.
  • Salazar's sister refuses to believe her brother killed the townsfolk, even accepting the idea of the undead over the theory that Salazar is a mass murderer. She never sees him again. In fact, she’s not even granted a visa to attend his execution.
  • Duane Putnam kills his wife and son to spare them, and dies knowing that his daughter will likely be killed horribly.
    • Because the official story paints it as a murder-suicide, he isn't even allowed to be buried with his family.
  • Salazar, who spent the entire film being a Shell-Shocked Veteran breaks down when he discusses the death of Grace Putnam, with the only thing he could do was hold her hand and sing a lullaby to comfort her.
    "I just held her hand..."
  • Salazar's fate: Condemned to death, he finally joins the zombie horde.
