Precious finally having a breakdown after learning she is HIV-positive.
The confrontation with her mother at the end, where it is revealed what happened to Precious when she was younger. Including strong hints of her mother sexually abusing her.
When Precious first arrives at the Each One, Teach One program, Miss Rain gets an idea of the girls' level of education by asking them to write the alphabet, taking turns to draw one letter after another. Most of the girls are OK—even Precious knows it though she can't immediately recognize the letters in writing—but one poor young woman steps up to the blackboard when it's her turn...and breaks down because she's so delayed that she has no idea how the alphabet goes, written or spoken. Miss Rain quickly comforts her, but it's still a harsh reminder of just how bad these women have it.
