Tear Jerker / Power Rangers Lost Galaxy

Go To

  • At the very start of the show, there's a little bit of sadness from Commander Stanton mentioning that this expedition probably will never see earth again.
  • Scorpius' final moments with his daughter, showing that, despite being, you know, EVIL, the two did in fact, love each other. This also falls under Heartwarming Moments.
  • The near climax of Redemption Day.
  • The Galactazords are not like previous Zords. They are thinking, living creatures known as the Galactabeasts, and they act WITH the rangers, not because of them. So, when Devoit reveals he's found, rebuilt and brainwashed their former allies into the Centauros and Stratoforce Megazords, as well as the Zenith Carrierzord, they're so shocked and distraught that they can barely even defend themselves against the two-on-one attack. Even with the Defender Torozord at their side, they can only bring themselves to hold out and hope that there's something left of their friends.
    • All of this makes the fact the Centauros and Stratoforce Megazords are destroyed in the finale fighting their absolute hardest to protect Terra Venture from Trakeena's army all the more heartbreaking.
  • Poor Kendrix...Sure, the Quasar Sabers' restoration effect reconstructed her body at the end, but it was still heartrending.
    • This is made even worse by the fact that there's no fake-out, no explanation of her being stuck in another dimension or anything. For the first time in the series, we got to see a Ranger die in the line of duty. The Reality Subtext of Valerie Vernon being written out due to developing leukemia and needing medical leave made it feel like it could've easily been a tribute to her had she not recovered like she did.
  • Karone tearfully apologizing for all the wrong she'd done as Astronema to the warrior she had turned to stone years earlier. Considering how childishly happy and bubbly she was at the beginning of that episode, it's quite a Mood Whiplash.
  • Magna Defender remembering how his son was killed when Scorpius pillaged their homeworld. The scene where he weakly crawls towards Zika's corpse is pretty heartbreaking. His tearful and eerily realistic pleas for Zika to get up as his voice breaks into sobs only make the scene worse.
    • For that matter, the fact that Magna Defender's backstory involves the onscreen death of his son.
    • Even more tragic is the fact that Zika died because he tried to stop Scorpius' forces from killing his father.
    • And then his sacrifice when he starts crawling toward the volcanic pit when the scene changes, with him walking with his son and holding hands.
    • His and Zika's final conversation plays out like Zika's spirit guiding his father through the most difficult sacrifice he'll ever have to make, the only comfort being they'll be Together in Death once he's redeemed himself.
Magna Defender: You were right Zika... Goodness is still in my heart.
Zika: I'm proud of you father!
Magna Defender: No Zika, I am proud of you.
    • When the scene changes back to the volcanic pit, Magna Defender is holding the flowers that his son gave him in the vision...
    • On top of this, the Defender knows that the Rangers will try and stop him from sacrificing himself to save them... so he throws his sword down in front of them and projects a barrier around them so they can't.
  • Maya paying tribute to Loyax at the end of "Loyax's Last Battle". She plants his broken sword into the sand where they'd fought, essentially eulogizes the fallen warrior, then walks off, a particularly grim and somber moment.
  • Maya being reunited with her childhood best friend, who seemingly escaped being turned into stone with the rest of their village, only to discover that the girl is an imposter.
  • Terra Venture is crashed, but the people are being saved. Still, Commander Stanton captures the failed dream of the space colony in two sentences, making clear that this home of theirs is truly fallen.
Stanton: This city was meant to be the shining capital of the new world. Instead it's a shipwreck.
  • Trakeena killing Villamax in the Grand Finale. Villamax refuses to open fire on a spaceship filled with civilians, but Trakeena is hard-pressed on it. Trakeena then lays down a Curb-Stomp Battle on Villamax because he refuses to fight his queen and pupil like this, and she kills him.
    • His final words are particularly sad, given how much pride he took in her as a student: "You've learned nothing..."
    • Further tragedy is the fact that Trakeena isn't completely to blame: being forcibly fused with Deviot within the cocoon destroyed any morals she had and reduced her to pure evil. In a sense, she's a victim too.
  • The destruction of the Megaship, the home base of two sets of Rangers, and with it D.E.C.A.
