This future timeline wasn't grim and hopeless for the heroes of the DC Universe.But as mentioned in the summary, there's a good reason it can be considered depressing from a certain point of view...
- The beginning of the story. Jason dies from lung cancer albeit surrounded by his family. Their reaction are this as well, especially of Matt.
- Damian's Break the Haughty moment, when he learns his grandfather never meant to make him his successor, only a vessel for his soul.
- The broken state of Jason, Bruce and their reunion in general. Before this, Jason cries when he meets Dick.
- The sorry life of Jason when revealed. He did have try to kill Bruce, and did go to become a criminal overlord. Then, after he killed the Joker, he learnt about Joker's curse, and the next one managed to kill Bruce. Then he lost Dick to Brainiac, Tim to Lex Luthor, Damian to the League and several friends.
- The arrival of Helena Wayne-Kyle. Selina fled the city after death of Batman, and tried to raise her good (which was working). Unfortunately, Black Mask II killed Catwoman after she refused work for him.
