Kakashi Hiden: Lightning in the Icy Sky
  • Kahyō's backstory: her son died after being stung by hornets, something that any medic should be able to treat easily. Unfortunately, no medics could be found, since all of them were fighting in the Fourth Great Ninja War. Really drives home the fact that civilians are the first to suffer during a war, even if no battles are being fought near them.

Shikamaru Hiden: A Cloud Drifting in Silent Darkness
  • Seeing Shikamaru acting so out-of-character while trying to be the responsible leader everyone expects him to be.
  • Temari is worried sick about Shikamaru, since he'd been acting strange for a while. She's also deeply hurt he's shutting her out of whatever is troubling him.

Sakura Hiden: Thoughts of Love, Riding Upon a Spring Breeze
  • Sakura is really sad over Sasuke's long absence. At one point, she wonders how much longer can she wait for him.

Konoha Hiden: The Perfect Day for a Wedding
  • Tenten's worry about being a tomboy and not feminine enough.
  • Temari thinking she isn't good enough to be pursued for marriage.
  • Teuchi's flashback to the day he met Naruto. He had seen the little boy (based on his description, Naruto is 4-5 years old) wandering outside his store for days, approaching as if to enter but always hesitating and walking away. So, one night he calls out to the kid, asking him if he wants a bowl of ramen. The boy jumps in fear after hearing someone shouting at him; then, he slowly walks towards Teuchi, shaking from fear and nerves. It's like he's expecting the ramen-maker to yell at him -or worse.
    • Teuchi later learns that Naruto is an orphan and that everyone in the village shuns him for some reason. One of his customers tells him -in a completely matter-of-fact tone, no less- that he should do what the other shopkeepers do and ban the boy from entering this store ever again. Hearing this, Teuchi is furious.
    • Teuchi knows that when one of his shinobi customers stops coming, that means they've probably died on a mission. And, since he hadn't seen Naruto for many weeks, he couldn't help but fear that the boy had been killed. Thankfully, another customer told him that Naruto just went on a long training trip with Jiraiya.
  • The search for the perfect wedding present will be Team 8's final mission: Kurenai, Kiba, Shino and Hinata will never be a four man squad again. They're all aware of this and they resolve to offer the best wedding gift possible to Hinata and Naruto. Doubles as heartwarming.

    Gaara Hiden: A Sandstorm Mirage
  • Some time in the past, Shijima willingly became Orochimaru's test subject for his experiments to unlock the secrets of the Sharingan. But it ended in failure, so she has to wear a pair of thick glasses at all times, since she can't "turn off" her eyes. Also, because of that, she had to abdicate her position as the heiress of Hōki family in favor of her younger sister, Hakuto.
  • Hakuto being pushed into an arranged marriage when she is in love with Shigezane is saddening.

Akatsuki Hiden: Evil Flowers in Full Bloom
  • Before the epilogue, the novel describes a scene of Zetsu and Tobi conversing. All but Zetsu, Kisame and Itachi believe him to be Madara Uchiha, and reflecting this, Zetsu calls him by his true name, Obito. Tobi's final line is, "just you wait, Rin..."
