Tear Jerker / Minority Report

• Anne Lively's life is incredibly tragic: a former addict whose daughter was drugged up and rendered a vegetable because her birth defect made her useful to the state. Even after cleaning up, she was murdered when she tried to reclaim her child, who then had to see repeated visions of her mother dying thanks to the nature of her psychic powers. Even at the end of the film, Agatha still has the hologram of her mother suspended in the water after being drowned as a keepsake.
• What that married guy goes through during the opening sequence when he figures out his wife is having an affair. The audience just sees his heart getting shredded right there in front of him, and the audience gets a good idea why the husband is this close to killing someone...
  • The horrified look on the wife's face, not just nearly getting killed but realizing her husband's being taken away forever...
• The fate of the halo-ed "killers": put in suspended animation forever, no appeal, no parole, no chance to explain themselves. Remember, the murders they almost committed are pretty much all "spur of the moment" crimes, meaning that with a little time to calm down and therapy, they could easily lead normal, harmless lives. They do get released at the end, however.
• Agatha tearfully replaying the day Anderton had his son taken away from him, then tapping into her Precog powers to see him maybe growing up into a life he might never get to live...
  • On that note, Anderton never finds out what happened to his son.
• The way the precogs came to be. Children of addicts of a new drug, they had constant nightmares about murders as children. Somebody got whiff of that, and eventually they ended up in the Temple, forced to sleep and have nightmares of brutal murders 24/7 — one of them being about the killing of one of their parents, which was ignored, too.
  • And they're just the ones that survived.
• In a way, the death of Danny Witwer can qualify as well.
• After John kidnaps Agatha, she asks him, "Is it now?" When you really think about it, she's been in that tank for so long, she can no longer grasp the concept of living in the present.
• The VR pods can run nearly any scenario, so of course you'd see some patrons using it for virtual porn or killing your boss (provided you have a photo for reference), but there's one poor guy who only wanted the experience of people appreciating his work.
  Virtual coworkers: You da man!
• In Crow's motel room, Anderton finds a bed full of pictures of children, one of whom is his son. When Crow arrives, Anderton starts beating him down as a terrified Crow confesses to the crime, saying that he was "gentle" with Anderton's son. An enraged and heartbroken Anderton then prepares to kill Crow as Agatha cries and pleads with him not to... but in the end, he chooses not to kill the man he believes to have murdered his son. He's sobbing out Crow's Miranda Rights, clearly torn to shreds over the whole thing.

  Anderton: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you [voice breaks] in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney... we will provide one.

  • The reveal of the real reason Crow confessed; Burgess promised Crow that if he allowed himself to be killed by Anderton, Crow's family would be taken care of. Crow hadn't actually killed anyone, and just wanted his family to be looked after. It's also a sad subversion of Hineman's speech about creatures caring the most about their own survival; Crow is at such a low point in his life that he wants to be killed, even though he won't be alive to see if his family really did get compensated as promised.
• The sheer, unbridled, painful rage with which Anderton answers Burgess's attempt to use Shaun's abduction to once again manipulate him. In that moment, Tom Cruise is Anderton.

  Anderton: DON'T YOU EVER SAY HIS NAME!
