Tear Jerker / Mary and Max

• Mary's suicide attempt, especially since we've seen all that's built up to it and understand why she's as miserable as she is at this point.
• Mary's second letter to Max as a child, in which she details a bully grabbing her sandwich and pissing on it, then making fun of her birthmark. This culminates in her crying as she writes the letter, even telling Max her tears are smudging the paper, then asking him as her voice is breaking if he's ever been bullied.
• The flashback that Max has to an incident in his childhood where he was chased and cornered by children shouting antisemitic taunts and threats.
• The fact that Max probably would have lived long enough to see Mary in person if he hadn't had such an abysmal diet (chocolate bars in hotdog rolls, and sweetened condensed milk) for years to the point of morbid obesity.
  • And Max's letter, especially the Meaningful Echo at the end.
  Max: You are my best friend. You are my only friend.
• When Mary and her baby arrive to Max's apartment, she says "It's us... We're here!" as if she was so excited to introduce her child to Max and implying that during the time skip, she must have told him all about her becoming a mother. Sadly, it was too late.
