    General
  • We have the revelation of Akito's broken home life, and how Sana pulls a small Batman Gambit to help Natsumi and Fuyuki realize everything wrong with all of them. It works so well that Natsumi breaks down crying, then speaks to Fuyuki about what has been going on, and soon they start doing better.
  • When Sana pulls her I Want My Beloved to Be Happy card by urging Rei to reunite with his New Old Flame Asako, and Rei then cuddles with poor Sana so she'll go to sleep happy and not cry. With the adorably heartwretching Good Bye Love song in the background.
  • Fuyuki is sent to a hospital due to an ulcer being caught in his throat and Natsumi and Akito (who tries to keep his cool) are both under the belief that he may die. Once Sana arrives, Akito is shown actually struggling not to cry in front of her.
  • Sana reuniting with her birth mother Keiko and meeting her half-sister Mariko. Even though Sana refuses to live with Keiko, she's still thankful for her birth and wishes her good luck as much as the situation allows. Both of them and Tsuyoshi are all moved to tears.
  • Sana finally talking to Mama Misako after she met with Keiko. All this time Sana was afraid that her Mama would have given her back, but what she didn't realize was that Misako too had the same fear.
"I wanted her to know... That Sana... That Sana is my daughter."

    Anime (First Season)
  • In episode 25, there's the scene of what was thought to be the death of Kurosuke, the rabbit that Mami was taking care of. Even if he did survive, this hits to close to home to anyone who's ever had a pet.
  • On a related note, there's Tsuyoshi having to convince Aono that they have to give Piyoko away in the very next episode.
  • While normally made for a few laughs in humorous scenes, Tsuyoshi's mental condition (which eerily shares several similarities to intermittent explosive disorder) is played a bit dramatically in episode 32, where after another one of his outbursts, he becomes horrified that he nearly attacked Sana who was just trying to help him and tells her that it's not safe to be around him anymore. This is apparently the same disorder that his now-imprisoned father possesses.
  • There's the reveal of Takeshi's terminal illness, which ultimately leads to his death in episode 49, which happened right in front of Sana. The worst part is that almost everyone but Sana knew that he was her father.

    Manga Continuity
  • Kazuyuki Komori as a whole. His father isn't around because of work, his mother is very overprotective, and he's unable to make friends because he's constantly moving. He's eventually driven to suicide after Akito ignores him as a result of his own problems and it culminates with stabbing Akito and leaving him with a bleeding arm that causes him to almost die of blood loss. By his last appearance, it appears that he has slowly recovered and apologizes to Akito, but he's forced to move away yet again. Akito, not holding a grudge and actually feeling responsible for the outcome, at least asks for his contact information, ensuring that he'll at least have a friend to talk to from now on.
  • Towards the end of the manga when Akito breaks down crying over having to leave Sana for America and ultimately causes her to recover from the depression that had been causing her to lose expression in her face. Doubles as a heart-warming moment.
  • Naozumi's ultimate fate as of Misty Blue. The guy ends up in a romantic relationship with a man and seems to be happy with him...but only because if he dates a woman he'd be constantly thinking of Sana and get depressed. That's not a way to live for anybody.
