Tear Jerker / Jewelpet (2009)

Go To

  • Episode 8 is a truly sad episode. Out of the blue Rinko’s parents start to argue and they almost do every child's worst nightmare: break up.
    • Rinko's solution doubles as heartwarming. The last time they argued like that was when her dad bought her a piano, but it was already too small for her. Hoping that she could make them reconcile, she played "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" on it, then asked them to not fight, because she liked her present. And she does exactly the same again.
  • Everybody who ever felt like an outcast for some reason can definitely feel sorry for Megumi in episode 9. She finds her best friend hanging out with someone who she just gets along with and two others who she doesn't like and they all play with their Jewelpet partners (which she didn’t have then). Feeling ignored and betrayed she eats all the desserts she bought. In the next day – thanks to Diana’s magic – she wakes up with the face of a pig. Fearing that she has become ugly and fat she starts to train hard.
    • And when she finally has the chance to have a Jewelpet, guess what animal the Jewel Charm turns into? When poor Megumi begs for Ryl to help her, you can tell how miserable she feels.
  • If you've seen Avengers: Infinity War, Dian snapping his fingers and disintegrating Rinko in episode 47 may trigger you by being similar to the infamous "I don't feel so good" scene.
  • Rinko's initial breakdown in episode 50. Seeing Dian petrifying Nanase after she obtained the Jewel Stick not only scarred her, but she actually blamed Dian for everything he did.
  • Episode 41 has a major one, as Rinko responds to Akira’s love confession by angrily telling him that he is nothing like Andy, note  that he always insults her and flat out tells him she hates him. Akira can only stand there in shock as Rinko coldly walks off with Andy, clearly heart broken before trudging off home himself.
    • This is followed by shots of them both of them laying sadly in their beds (with Ruby telling Rinko off for rejecting Akira), with Akira still heart broken by the whole thing and Rinko hurt by how things had turned out.
    • Basically, the end of the series can serve as one big Trauma Conga Line for Rinko, as her obsession and refusal to listen basically causes her to be hypnotized, kidnapped, forced to marry AND give up her powers to Andy/Dian, causing him to become humanity’s biggest threat. And even when Akira saves her and she realizes her love for him, she still has to watch him get Taken for Granite right in front of her eyes by Dian, using the powers SHE gave to him. Sure Rinko was unnecessarily cruel and harsh towards Akira, but you can’t help but want to give the girl a hug after everything she’s been through at the end.
