  • In the first chapter, we're treated to Kaede making every desperate effort to convince everyone to vote for her as Rantaro's killer. It's all in vain as Shuichi takes the blame for her and ends up dragged away to be executed. It becomes all the more distressing to see her breaking down as she can only watch Shuichi be brutally beaten before being burned alive right before her very eyes.
  • Then in Chapter 3, Gonta turns out to be the latest victim and Ryoma, whom he had become close with since Chapter 2, does not take the news well. He ends up furiously running to where Gonta's body is but falls back into his depressed state upon seeing him.
  • In the same chapter, the next corpse is revealed to be Himiko who's body was found in the cafeteria with her neck choked. Tenko goes in a state of blind fury after finding her and becomes a sobbing mess as she demands justice for her friend/crush.
    • The next chapter shows that Tenko is still in agony from Himiko's murder and how Monokuma refused to continue the trial to find her murderer.
  • Kaedeā€™s friendship with Kaito takes a serious nosedive when she presses everyone to hold a trial against Maki for killing Kokichi who had been collaborating with her to stop the Killing Game. After spending much time together as close friends, it's just heartbreaking to see these two at each other's throats throughout the fifth case from beginning to end.
  • Just before the sixth class trial, Monokuma critically injures Maki and declares he will execute anyone who doesn't show up to the trial. When everyone tries to help Maki make it to the trial, she insists that everyone should go on without her because she is already as good as dead. Kaito then decides that he will stay with Maki because he doesn't want to lose her again, and he's also already dying. The rest of the survivors tearfully leave to the sound of Kaito's coughing.
  • Tsumugi shows everyone Kaede's audition tape for the Danganronpa show, revealing that prior to the recent killing game, Kaede was a nihilistic distrusting person who was eager about the idea of betraying and killing someone. Needless to say, Kaede is horrified by what she sees.
    • Tsumugi then ups the ante by showing what Kokichi and Maki, two people who died trying to end the killing game, were like before, showing a much plainer looking Kokichi stating he's willing to do anything to entertain the audience and a nervous Maki asking to be cast as a killer as it's the only reason she was interested in the show.
