Tear Jerker / I, Tonya

  • "Just send me to jail, and then I can still skate!" It's almost impossible to not want to give her a hug, in spite of her flaws. Her whole life is basically ending right before her eyes — and, if you believe the film's version of events, all for something she didn't even do.
  • When Jeff, in a genuine moment of remorse, quietly admitting to the interviewer he ruined Tonya's career.
  • The second time Tonya confronts a judge about her scoring, he explains that they want a representative from a wholesome, stable family. Tonya quietly points out that she doesn't have a wholesome, stable family.
Tonya: Can't it just be about the skating...?
  • The mirror scene. Tonya does her best to put on her "game face" but can't help but get overcome by emotion, knowing she has one last chance to prove herself, surrounded by people who hate her. It's one of the best-known scenes of the film for a reason, and Robbie absolutely nails it.
  • The sheer Trauma Conga Line young Tonya goes through within the first ten minutes - we first see her as a cute three-year-old, then move to an older Tonya who ends up wetting herself on the ice because her mother won't let her leave the rink, Lavona beats her with a hairbrush, the other kids call her white trash and then her dad leaves, abandoning Tonya to suffer under the domineering thumb of her abusive mother.
  • The happy times of Tonya and Jeff's relationship come across as bittersweet, as we know they won't last.
