Tear Jerker / From Here to Eternity

• Prewitt's reason for not going back to boxing. He blinded a friend during training, and recalls one incident in the hospital where the man started crying. The guilt left him so shaken he couldn't even see him again. What makes it sadder is that Montgomery Clift delivers the story so softly, yet fully conveying just how guilty he still feels.

• Karen's confession of how horrible her marriage has been. Two years after they were married, she discovered he'd been having drunken affairs on the regular. She held out hope that when she got pregnant, she'd at least love her child and that would make the marriage tolerable. Then one night, she went into labor and her husband was too drunk after a hook-up to help her. The baby was still born and the experience left her barren. It comes right after Warden tries to judge her for having slept with other men, and he's horrified at what he was previously accusing her of.
• Maggio's death in Prewitt's arms, and Prewitt's tearful rendition of "Taps" on bugle afterwards.
• Anticlimactic as it seemed, Prewitt's death, and Alma's tearful but composed scene with Karen afterwards as the latter throws her leas into the ocean, telling Alma that if they float towards shore, it means that they'll return to Hawaii later. Alma tells her that she's never going to come back.
