  • The final shot of the movie, which shows Rob Hall's frozen body lying peacefully and covered in snow. He's still up there on Everest to this day.
    • His final phone call with Jan, during which he admits to her that he'll never be able to meet their child.
  • After Beck's apparent death, we see his wife sadly go upstairs to wake their children up and give them the news.
  • Doug Hansen's sad and abrupt death, especially since Hall was gone for only a brief time before he unhooked himself from the line and fell. Not that he would have had much of a chance even if he hadn't been in a daze and had stayed with him, but it was still a brutal obliteration of what the film had played up as being the determined underdog.
    • Doug was a father. He had 2 grown kids at the time of his death, son Jamie and daughter Angie, the latter only being 19. While it's not depicted in the film, Jon Krakauer was the one who returned Doug's belongings to his grieving family.
    • One can only imagine how the kids who made him the flag and helped him raise some of the money to pay for the trip reacted to his death.
