Nickelodeon Episodes

  • Doug's Christmas Story. Especially the scene in which Doug imagines that Porkchop will be euthanized for biting Beebe and pictures having to visit his dog's grave. Doug wasn't the only one in tears at that point in the show.
  • Doug Says Goodbye: Doug and Skeeter's farewell/exchange of gifts the night before Skeeter is to "move," and the next morning Doug seeing the Valentine family car driving away and thinking he missed saying goodbye to his best friend, and then heading home in a deep funk only to run into... Skeeter himself, as it turns out he was only moving his living quarters into the basement.
  • Doug on the Trail: Played for laughs, but the scene in which Doug, Skeeter and Porkchop believe Mr. Dink has been eaten by a bear and start mourning the loss of their best adult friend (Skeeter even sobs aloud) is still rather touching.
  • Doug's Fat Cat: The scene where Doug is convinced that he may have killed Stinky, he starts weeping Tears of Remorse and wonders how he'll break it to Roger. And as Skeeter tries to comfort him, Roger bursts in, frantically asking where his beloved pet cat is and breaking into Manly Tears before threatening to beat up Doug. Thankfully, Stinky turns up alive and well, having just given birth to three kittens.
  • Doug's Lucky Hat: After Roger steals the hat, Doug imagines he's a homeless sock peddler while Roger's an enormously successful financial tycoon. The fantasy has two people ignoring the disheveled Doug, Roger pulling up in a limo and buying a pair of socks out of pity (then throwing them away), and Roger's limo splashing dirty rainwater at the hapless Doug. The ending qualifies too, as the hat flies away from Roger, who pursues it, but Doug willingly lets it go, allowing the next person to find it and experience the luck. The music that plays during the hat's flight can be moving.
  • In "Doug's Hot Property", the ordinarily friendly comic shop owner Mr. Sully becomes bitter and paranoid after his Man-O-Steel Man issue #1 is stolen. His store gets extra security, a far contrast to how welcoming his store used to be. His demeanor to Doug (one of his favorite customers) is quite startling:
Mr. Sully: They all got lifted. Now either buy something or leave, so the next greedy kid can come in and snoop around. (goes back to staring at his security monitor)

Disney Episodes

  • Patti's Dad Dilemma: Patti's whole struggle with her father dating Ms. Kristal and "replacing" her Missing Mom. Especially when she stares at a Precious Photo of herself with her parents and flashes back to the day it was taken, and when she finally lashes out at Ms. Kristal during dinner, then runs to the cemetery to cry at her mother's grave, but her father finds her there and comforts her.
    • The B plot where Doug learns from Judy that his parents lied about his hamster Happy going to the circus. He actually died, and the Funnies didn't think Doug was ready to learn about death as a kid. Doug talks about it with Ms. Krystal, who also lost a pet, and they start crying together while hugging.
  • The scene in Judy's Big Admission where Judy's in tears because she thinks she didn't get admitted into Vole University. She really needs a hug, which Doug gives her.
  • In "Doug Gets a Roommate", Doug is so fed up with Ned Cauphee making him look bad that he says that he can't wait to see Ned's Laser-Guided Karma. Not long afterward, Doug and Skeeter see a house on fire, and the former says that he'd hate to find out whose house that was and that he wouldn't wish that on his worst enemy. Immediately after he says this, it turns out to be Ned's house, and he hugs his parents in tears. Remembering what he said to Ned before this, Doug is immediately remorseful and thinks he's responsible for making this happen.
  • In "Doug's Best Buddy" Doug's friends get mad at him due to his former best friend Bobby Bodingo ruining their time at Funkytown with his antics. Doug finally has enough and angrily snaps at Bobby over repeatedly getting him in trouble with his friends due to his childish antics and swears off his friendship with Bobby, Bobby sounds genuinely hurt and after Bobby's mom talks to Doug thanking him for befriending him and mentioning how Bobby struggled at his old school after Doug left, he can't help but feel guilty for going off on Bobby like that(even if he was partially in the right for doing so).
