Light Novel
- Though the series is very lighthearted about Adele's incredibly abusive and dysfunctional family, Marcela, Monika, and Aureana nearly break down into tears when they learn her sordid background, alongside discovering she has no clothes except her uniforms, no personal belongings, and what seems to be a soup bone she's been chewing on to stave off hunger. note Especially awful for them with how oblivious and chipper Adele still seems to be in spite of it all, and their original intent being to call her out for monopolizing the attention of the boys.
Anime
- The sudden mood shift in the second half of Episode 4, where Reina's traumatic past is revealed. The poor girl thinks she just watched her friend get mercilessly killed in a severely one-sided fight against bandits, and has flashbacks of her murdered father laying on the ground before her. She is suddenly able to cast incredibly powerful magic from grief and anger, and the rest of the Crimson Vow has to physically stop her from murdering the leader, who's already surrendered. The episode ends on a somber note with Reina asking if the other members have ever killed another human being.
- Her full backstory in Episode 5 is even WORSE, with the only joke being that eveyrone has no idea to react. Pauline's backstory is also bad, along with Mile's. It's only Mavis, and Adele's arrival at the academy that make the episode lighthearted. (See above, which is reproduced in full)
