Tear Jerker / Dark Water

• Yoshimi's Heroic Sacrifice to save her daughter, coupled with seeing the six year old Ikuko seeing her mother go in the elevator, rush to the 7th floor, only for the doors to open and dirty water flood towards her and push her down, leaving her crying out for Yoshimi.

  Ikuko: *all alone, crying on the floor* MAMA! MAMA!..

• The Distant Finale, a now 16 year old reuniting with Yoshimi and jut being blown away and surprised to see her again and wishing to be with stay with her, only for Yoshimi to calmly tell her they can't be a family anymore.
  • Ikuko's final line as the movie ends: "My mother has been watching me all this time".
    • The remake does the same as well, except when Ceci is about to leave the apartment.
• Natasha is the spirit of a young girl maybe a little older than Ceci who drowned in a water vat in a vain attempt to retrieve her bag, which fell in. Now, she's a vengeful ghost who has probably just realized she was abandoned by her mother, and is bound to the apartment to never have rest. She was a CHILD when she died, with a whole life ahead of her.
• When Natasha's ruse as Ceci is realized by Dahlia, she looks at her sadly and says, "Don't go, I want you to be my mommy..."
