Tear Jerker / Blue Gender

• EVERYTHING regarding the state of the Koreans in Episodes 4-5. Especially poor Yung...
  • To recap, the people who are LUCKY are only with broken limbs or are starving for nourishment and are more or less implied to have given up all hope. So much so that the adults and most of the children regard the Second Earth soldiers with unyielding disdain for abandoning them to their fates, even Yuji.
  • Joey meets his end in the latter episode, using his final breaths to tell Yuji he considers him a good friend. The latter already had to come to terms with the world as he knew it was gone completely and in less than a week, he loses a new friend while cradling him. And later he sees the Blue take Yung...
    • Then Robert detonates himself to eliminate the Blue attacking them, leaving Yuji and Marlene alone in getting back into orbit. The cherry on top would be Yung's dog Maru somehow surviving the slaughter and coming back to Yuji with his torn collar, seemingly blissfully unaware that he'll never see the young man again, never mind his now-deceased owner.
• Yuji being driven mad by his overactive B-cells and Marlene is trying to talk to him and bring him back to his senses. The way Marlene speaks, suggesting that she knows she's in danger of losing the only person who matters to her, is especially poignant.
  • Yuji's rants are as pitiful as they are horrifying, as he brings up Yung and Joey from the beginning of the series and even reminisces on Takashi and the promise they'd made to go ride away together once the latter had been "cured". He even turns his gun on Marlene as she talks him down, scratching her before kissing him.
