"Come back to me. Come back to me."

  • The semi-Arc Words in the film's prologue: "Come back to me..." It's the first words Louise says to her newborn daughter...and it's what she says when her daughter dies.
    • The use of Max Richter's beautifully heartbreaking musical piece "On The Nature of Daylight" helps sell the inevitable tragedy.
    • Hannah screaming "I HATE YOU!" during the montage, right after we see a scene of her saying "I love you." to Louise. One wonders if she found out her mother already knew she was going to die young.
    • To say nothing of Louise collapsing and crying over Hannah's body right before she's zipped up in a body bag.
  • "Abbott is death process" sometime after the explosion in the ship. He had made a Heroic Sacrifice to get the message to Louise and save her life, despite her ignoring repeated warnings about the bomb in the antechamber with her. Even more of a tragedy is that he knew all his life it would happen and still needed a moment to prepare before appearing to Louise and Ian for the last time. The worst part is that like Elcor, Costello is unable to express human emotion, and relies heavily on context to indicate his sorrow.
  • The Bittersweet Ending of the film, where Louise decides to pursue a relationship with Ian knowing that it will end in heartbreak, grief and divorce, because the years of happiness they will have will be worth it. The score (using Max Richter's "On The Nature of Daylight, just like in the prologue), cinematography and acting all come together in one beautiful, poignant moment as Louise agrees to have a baby with him, flashing forward to all the happy moments she'll have with her daughter even though it will end in her death.
Louise: I forgot how good it felt to be held by you...
