Tear Jerker / All Dogs Go to Heaven 2

Go To

  • As time starts to run out until sundown, an uncharacteristically melancholy Charlie confesses the truth to Sasha about who he really is ("I'm not his angel, I'm just an errand boy sent to fetch Gabriel's horn. Sasha, my whole life has been about making and breaking promises, and now I'm going to do it again"). It's a subtle Continuity Nod, but it's basically Charlie acknowledging that he was a total scumbag to Anne-Marie for most of the first movie, and he still (quite rightly) feels guilty about it sixty years later, on top of all the other immoral things he's done throughout his life. He hates the idea that after all this time, he's still making the same old mistakes, and he tries his best to avoid setting David up for heartbreak for the rest of the movie, which ironically winds up making things worse anyway.
  • David running away from home because he feels that he will be unwanted when his stepmother has her child. Thankfully, he comes around to realize this isn't the case.
  • Charlie admitting that he also ran away from his parents at a young age, and never saw them again. This is what prompts David to finally want to go home.
Charlie: Guess I could've used a guardian angel...
  • Once the materialization collars wear off, Charlie and Itchy become ghosts again. Sasha and David were left confused and frantically tried to find them. Charlie desperately tries to get their attention, but it was useless. Sasha just walks right through him, and unlike during the "Count Me Out" song number, this was not played for laughs.
  • Itchy electing to stay in Heaven, rather than return home with Charlie. Charlie respects his wish, but it's a very bittersweet goodbye for the duo. This even makes up for the end of the first film where they didn't have a proper goodbye. In the subsequent television series, Itchy changes his mind and joins Charlie on Earth to assist him in carrying out good deeds. He briefly goes back to Heaven after completing over a hundred missions, but once again, he decides to stay with Charlie.
    • Also, David and Sasha saying goodbye to Charlie as he and Itchy return to heaven. Just the way David's voice breaks when he pleads, "Charlie... don't go" is heartbreaking. Especially if you take into account that David had already lost his mom, and now has to say goodbye all over again.
    • Just the way Charlie and Sasha make what amounts to a Dying Declaration of Love before parting, believing that it will be the last time they'll see each other as Charlie becomes a ghost again.
      Charlie: Sasha... I love you...
Sasha: I love you, too, Charlie...
  • The reprise of "I will Always Be With You" is a surprisingly bittersweet Power Ballad. If the title didn't tip you off, the song seems to imply that Charlie knows he won't be here very long and wants Sasha to know that he'll still love her when he returns to the afterlife.
    • On a more meaningful tearjerker, try listening to the song just after one has lost their own dog.
