    Volume 1
  • When Glenn made a thesis of his original magic the Fool's World, he was mocked for its creation with his teacher even burning it since they saw no use fit for such a useless spell. Not helping the matter is that Glenn only usage for it was to kill other magicians

    Volume 2
  • Rumia is completely convinced that her mother hates her and that she's an unwanted child, because her her special ability. Her mother's fully aware of this and is very remorseful for doing that to her her daughter although she had no choice since it could risk damaging the royal family and possibly the already sour relationship between Alzano Empire and the Kingdom of Rezalia. Thankfully they managed to make up at the end of the volume.

    Volume 3
  • The volume ends with Glenn getting impaled by Re=L and Rumia getting abducted by her after Re=L met her 'brother'.

    Volume 4
  • When Sistine sees Re=L kidnap Rumia and hears she killed Glenn. She tries to fight against her, but is unable to even chant the spell when Re=L gives her an opening to attack, because she's to afraid to fight back.

    Volume 5
  • As a result of Glenn's behavior going a bit too far. Sistine actually starts doubting him. Thankfully Rumia was able to convince her to talk to him again.
  • Back when he was an Imperial Court Mage, he had a comrade who supported his dream. Her name was Sara Silvers, but she died in a mission against Jatice. This became the reason why Glenn quit being a Court Mage and why he was an unmotivated NEET at the beginning of this series.
  • Sistine is forced to marry 'Leos' or else he reveal Rumia and Re=L secrets to everyone.
  • After Glenn saves Sistine from Angel Dust addicts, she tells him to not touch her since she's terrified of the way he fought. She then realizes what she's done and feels remorse for it.

    Volume 6
  • When Celica disappears in a portal, Glenn's clearly distraught about this and can't think straight since he tries to save her by himself instead of getting help like he usually does. It took Kash kicking him to think straight again.
  • Celica telling Glenn she never considered herself human as a result of her immortality and that she hates the fact she can never grow up with him. As a result she desperately tries to complete the mission the voice in her mind is telling her despite having no desire to complete it herself, but she does try it so that she can become human since she's afraid Glenn didn't see her as a human and that he will only stay with her out of pity. Thankfully Glenn always considered her family and nothing is going to change that.

    Volume 7
  • According to Bernard, Eve never truly had much of a choice in her life and went through lots of hardshipts to get where she is now.
  • This volume just shows how much Rumia suffers as her status as a Supernatural. She knows full well that as a result of her ability, she keep getting targeted by the Researchers of Divine Wisdom which puts all her friends, loved ones and other innocent people in danger and she's scared that they will die one day because of her especially Glenn, because she full well knows that he will keep protecting her despite her wishes for him to be save and to make it worse this is the reason she fell in love with him. This also makes her conflicted if she wants to stay with everyone or if she should disappear and as a result she sees herself as a very selfish person for wishing to stay with them.
  • Eve's outburst is more or less a cry of sorrow of how she's unable to prove her right to Glenn. This becomes even worse when you consider her circumstances and backstory in later volumes.
  • The ending is this. Even though they manage to thwart the Researchers of Divine Wisdom's plan, Rumia and Eve still suffer from their psychological problems which may even have gotten worse.

    Volume 8
  • Aisha attacks Re=L, because she believes the latter killed her family and Re=L just stands there and lets her attack her since she's unable to attack a friend.

    Volume 9
  • The prologue has the class cheerfuly playing a game together with Rumia praying peaceful days like that could go on forever, but as she herself suspected it was something impossible:
Chapter 1: After all, I shouldn't have hoped
    • Jatice severely injures Re=L and forcefully takes Rumia with him while Sistine can only watch helplessly.
    • Sistine then goes to Glenn and Celica for help. However their residence is then attacked by the Researchers of Divine Wisdom which caused Celica to go MIA.
    • Jatice then blows up the city hall and pins the blame on Glenn which caused him to become a fugitive. To make mattters worse he has also taken Rumia hostage and forces Glenn to listen to his orders in exchange for her safety.
  • When Sistine meets a resurrected Jin Ganis. Her reaction is panic and despair since the man who tried to rape her is back and wants to try again. Not helping the matter is that she's currently alone since Glenn is fighting Reik and although she managed to advance greatly through training, Jin is still to strong for her to beat alone.
  • In this volume we get to see more of Eve's circumstances which shows why she's such a Broken Ace:
    • On the day Sara died, she wanted to sent Albert with her and Glenn, but her father interfered with her choice since sending so many pawns could damage the reputation of the Ignite Family and all they needed to do is kill Jatice. The end result is Sara's death and Eve deciding to fight only for her family.
    • It's also clear that her relation with her father is rather abusive since he outright called her worthless to her face and told her to abandon her silly ideals and make maintaining the family's reputation her top priority.
    • As a result of the above Eve's current top priority is killing Jatice to improve the reputation of her family which was damaged by his survival and in order to get all the credit she sent the other members away on other missions. This even caused her to dismiss "Megiddo's Fire" as a lower priority although many people could die once it's activated. Glenn even notes that this behavior of her is really odd, for the record Glenn doesn't have the best relationship with Eve, but even he knows something is wrong with her when she makes such a lapse of judgement which causes him to refuse fighting alongside her against Jatice since he considers stopping "Meggido's Fire" more important. She then keeps ordering for him to fight alongside her to no avail, but it sounds and feels more like a little girl who was refused and abandoned.
    • Just the contrast between Glenn and Eve during the crisis is this. Glenn makes the decision to stop "Megiddo's Fire", because of Sistine's plead for him to continue fighting to save others while Eve makes the decision to fight Jatice, because of her father's words to fight for her family's reputation or else she's worthless to him. The narrative even describes it like this:
While Glenn kept thinking about the words that give him hope, Eve kept thinking about the words that give her despair.

    Volume 10
  • While some students are sympathetic to Rumia's status as a Doom Magnet, there are also some that blame her which doesn't help her complex at all.
  • Rumia crying once she realizes that she truly doesn't want to sacrifice herself and wants to be with everyone.

    Volume 11
  • As a result of her failure at preventing Fejite's Three Worst Days, Eve got demoted and banished from her family with her father being the one telling her that she's useless to him. When telling this she breaks down in front of Glenn and tells him that she wants to be accepted by her family and father. Glenn tries to comfort her, but she commands him to turn around which he does after seeing how she looks. She then hugs his back and cries out for a while.
  • Glenn asks Eve what happened on the day Sara died since he rethought what happens and realizes that normally she wouldn't make a mistake like that. Eve thinks back about what her father said that the other members are just tools for to use which is why back-up didn't arrive for them against Jatice, but she decides not to tell him, because she considers herself responsible for Sara's death since in the end she still relented to her father's decision instead of her own judgement. What makes sadder is that if she told him, their relation could improve a bit, but it's rather clear that it's currently too complicated that they can't even talk about such a personal subject to fix it.
  • Although she gets better, Eve using a fire spell despite knowing it will result in her death. Especially the reactions others have to the realization. The students she taught cry uncontrollably at her death while Glenn just stands and looks silently at her remains.

    Volume 12
  • After the 3 worst days of Fejite the voice in Celica's head starts getting stronger and she's afraid of that she will remember who she is and forget who she currently is and more importantly if she can still be with Glenn. This is the normally confident and arrogant Celica, but now she breaks down not over the current predicament she's in, but rather if she can stay with her adopted son in the future.

    Volume 13
  • Re=L falls ill and needs a very specific treatment to save which only can be done if Glenn rejoins the special missions annex and defeat Albert who has gone rogue.
  • When Glenn returns as a member, it's clear that the people who recognize to know him there don't like him for being a deserter.
  • Glenn getting beaten up by the three new members of the Special Missions Annex since it's just a senseless beating against him without any meaning.

    Volume 14
  • Glenn's deaths in the timeloops are this especially since he remembers them.
    • His first death happens once he notices that Ellen managed to get 100% in the test which should be impossible and caused him to question her about it, but in the end he gets killed with a big hole in his chest. In his last moments he laments the fact he couldn't see the future of his students while seeing all the people he knew flash by, his comrades of the Specials Missions Annex, the school faculty, Celica, his students, Rumia, Re=L and finally Sistine. Making things even sadder is the fact that Nameless told him that when his body was found all of his students cried and Eve tried to hold back her tears while saying that it's all her fault since she was the one who convinced him to investigate Ellen.
    • His second death happens in front of his students including the ones he taught at Saint Lily. Naturally at first all of them are speechless and horrified at the sudden sight of Glenn getting a big hole in his body and their reactions afterwards are truly heartbreaking:
      • Sistine picks up Glenn's dying body and cries while wondering what happened.
      • Rumia tries to use healing spells and her ability to heal him, but cries out it's useless.
      • The normally emotionless Re=L cries in grief while pleading to Glenn not to die.
      • Cash, Wendy, Collette, Francine and Gibble weep at his sudden death.
      • Glenn seeing all of their reactions places his hand in the place where his heart used to be and says that it hurts.
    • It's also implied that he died several more times in an attempt to stop the loops, but just ended with the same result.
  • Glenn tries to get Eve's help to end the timeloops, but he accidentally causes her death instead, because of the rules below. Eve is scared of dying while Glenn keeps apologizing for causing it and pleads for her to sleep to end her suffering. Once Eve's fully dead, Glenn kept hugging her body, thinks about his (bad) experiences with her and despite knowing the timeloop will begin again, he still feels a sense of loss from Eve's death and is still rather shaken by it in the next loop.
  • After everything above, it's clear that Glenn's entire situation. Due to Le Kill, he along with everyone else are stuck in a timeloop which will restart once Ellen fails her objective of winning the competition, someone tries to interfere with the timeloop or if they know about it with Glenn as the only exception because of Nameless. Also the person who knows about the timeloops are killed by the angel governing the rules. Meaning Glenn is pretty much alone in this situation and is unable to ask for help directly since it will kill his ally, restart the loop and dishearten him even more. This was the same guy who told Albert to trust his allies and ask for their help in the previous volume, but now he's unable to even heed his own advice which in turn is what allowed him to survive so far.
  • Ellen Kleitos' situation isn't that much better. First up both her older brother and father are dead which leaves her with no protection from her grandfather who in turn orchestrated the timeloops by giving her the watch in order for her to get stronger. In the end she ended up living the same week for 5000 times! This clearly caused an effect on her mind since she becomes a more colder person along with a hatred towards her childhood friend, Sistine who in turn just wonders what's wrong with her. Also in both of Glenn's deaths, she was pretty much begging him to stop bothering her which implies she knows full well what will happen to people who break the rules. In the final loop, Glenn questions her about what she really wants she breaks down and admits that she doesn't want to relive the same week again. Not helping the matters is that the loops accumulated enough that Le Kill plans on continuing them forever thus leaving her in despair since nothing could kill such a godlike creature.

    Volume 15
  • Glenn notes the growth his students have made yet he feels useless due to not having grown or developed at all, which makes him feel left out.
  • Maria's past. As a kid, she used to live in Rezalia, but due to poverty, she was abandoned by her parents and ended up living in Alzano. Despite her abandonment, she continues to believe in her faith and hopes to relive the moments of her father.
  • Luna Flair's backstory. She used to be a third-rate magician just like Glenn, but unlike him, she was unable to save people on missions or even those close to her and even died alongside her family and friends four years ago, only to be resurrected as an angel. Although she has the strength to save people now, she's still alone since people avoid her and see her as a monster for not being human.
  • Luna sees Glenn as a reflection of herself back when she was human, but unlike her, he was actually able to save people despite being a third-rate magician. As a result, she desperately wants to defeat Glenn to prove that her choice to abandon her humanity is correct. In the end, she was defeated by Glenn with support from Rumia. After her defeat, she just cries that Glenn has allies and friends to rely on while she's alone since all her family is dead with her current ally being a clone of her childhood friend and how unfair the world is.

    Volume 16
  • According to Shigure, Sakuya has poor health and is participating in the Magic Festival to support her family. Not helping the matter is that Shigure uses this along with his mantra to guild trip Sistine during the game. What also doesn't help is that Sistine has her own dreams and that she's currently fighting for her country which gives her more guilt for being useless. Thankfully Glenn manages to cheer Sistine up and reignite her spirit.
  • Alicia III falls to madness once she discovers the truth of her bloodline and the past of Alzano and causing several problems the main cast struggles with the present including the Azure Sky Cross, the Ship of Fire, and the persecution of the Gifted. Naturally, once her sane half gained control, she committed suicide out of sheer guilt.
  • The Magic Festival ends abruptly due to Jatice poisoning the entire team of Rezalia with Angel Dust and then Luna and Chase appear to kidnap Maria.

    Volume 17
  • Chase sacrifices himself to save Luna, to make it even sadder he was just saved from his hostage situation a moment before. Luna could only weep at the fact her family once again died in front of her and she couldn't do anything about it.
  • Luna realizes that her boss planned the death of her family in order for her to reincarnate into an angel and tries to attack him, but gets easily defeated.
  • Once again it is shown just how awful Eve's father, Azel, is and how abusive their relationship truly is since it is not that Eve wants to obey him, but rather she is completely incapable of defying him by herself. Thankfully Glenn managed to stop her upon seeing how miserable she truly is.
  • Although Glenn is rather proud of how much his students have matured, he does feel conflicted due to feeling inadequate at his own lack of development and wonders if he still has a place in their lives.
  • The fact the original Lydia is dead and killed by her father who used her remains to create a clone that's only loyal to him and more or less a big insult to the original who opposed his monstrous actions.
  • Once everything is over, Eve finally lets out all her emotions and cries out to her deceased sister, Lydia.

    Volume 18
  • The cover is Glenn in tears holding a letter that in the volume itself is revealed to be Celica's goodbye to him.
  • Back in volume 6, Nameless told Glenn that one day he needs to make a decision between two things that are important to him, this volume reveals the choice is between chasing after Celica who regained her memories or forgetting about Celica and staying in Fejite to protect it and all his students and other allies. As a result of the Sadistic Choice Glenn is more or less completely depressed during the first half of the volume and to make it worse, he sees other people preparing to protect Fejite with full confidence or are worrying about their loved ones who might have died due to the destruction of Alzano's capital. The latter caused him to wonder if he is selfish about wanting to save Celica.

    Volume 19
  • In the end Glenn is forced to say goodbye to Celica, which causes him to finally burst out all his emotions and outright call her "mother" for the first time since he does not want this to be their goodbye.

    Volume 22
  • La Tillica leaves Titus and La Faria upon seeing her once beloved master turn the paradise they made into a hellhole with her sister following him out of blind devotion and love. Even sadder is the fact that she left them alone so her sister could confess her feelings to the man she also loved. This also gives a much harsher retrospect on Nameless' initial dislike for Rumia since it is now clear that she sees herself in Rumia due to both of them giving up on their own love to make someone else happy.
  • Finally the cumulation of Glenn's issues and Heroic Fatigue causes him to get stuck in a Lotus-Eater Machine courtesy of Jatice while his students try to wake him up but to no avail. Even Jatice is saddened by Glenn's inability to wake up since he sincerely believes his rival and Worthy Opponent should be able to do better than that and leaves the group on their own out of disappointment.

Memory Records

    Volume 1
  • "Heavens, the lonesome witch"
    • The Reveal that the Glenn Radars we knew in this story was a thrall and that this was all a ploy to kill Celica. Celica just bonded with the first person in a long time and it turned out to be a lie. It's no wonder she nearly lost all her will to live if it wasn't for a cry for help from the youth who shall become the Glenn Radars we all know from the present.
    • This story just shows how much it sucks to be immortal for Celica. Because of her immortality and power people keep avoiding her and even the ones who do become close to her shall die one day while she keeps on living without even aging a single day.

    Volume 2
  • "You and my Forget-Me-Not"
    • An amnesiac Sistine actually asks Glenn not to restore her memories since she is afraid of forgetting her current memories and being mean to him like before losing her memories.
  • "Two Idiots"
    • Glenn's first reaction at knowing his magic characteristics wasn't a positive one, because it means his dream of becoming a "Mage of Justice" is nearly impossible to achieve. He even questions Celica about it since she knew it and even when Celica gives him a speech about how it makes him the person he is, he's unable to understand it which causes Celica to slap him in an attempt to calm him down, but this only causes him to run away from home. However he did not run away because Celica slapped him, but rather that he made her sad.
    • Nina breaking down in front of Glenn and admitting to him that she doesn't want to leave the orphanage and go with her bioligical father, but she has to since this is the only way she can support the orphanage.
    • In the end Glenn was able to start the first step of creating the "Fool's World", but it isn't a joyful moment of pride, instead it's a moment of shame since his original magic goes against everything a normal mage fights with which more or less happened once he used it as the basis of his thesis as mentioned in Akashic Records Volume 1.
    • It's rather sad to know that Glenn and Nina never met each other again when the latter went with her father considering how good friends they were.

    Volume 3
  • "White Dog"
    • When Sara shows Glenn the kids he managed to save, Glenn is only able to think about his inability to save their parents.
    • In the end Glenn is forced to kill Camilla once it is clear that she is beyond saving and a danger to other people. After putting her out of her missery, she thanks Glenn for killing her while Glenn can only tear up at his inability to save her.

    Volume 4
  • "Fake Hero"
    • Aria is turned into a demon against her will and pleas to Abel to kill her. Abel tries to save her and the other kids sacrificed, but is unable to do so and can only see everyone die while Aria becomes a demon.
    • In the end the once innocent and idealistic boy, Abel, becomes jaded, more ruthless and willing to sacrifice people to save more. He then gives up on his believes and renames himself "Albert Frazer" after a vengeful and notorious vigilante who was called a "Fake Hero" for sacrificing many people to save more.

    Volume 5
  • "THE JUSTICE"
    • Zepal forces his daughter, Neige, to kill Glenn with the Black Ghost disease. However Neige is completely incapable of killing Glenn due to the kindness he showed her. Neige begs her father to spare him, but naturally he refuses.
    • In order to save Neige, Glenn puts the contents of some of the bottles into himself to see if it is save for her, However this still damages his body. Neige begs Glenn to stop and kill her to save himself since she doesn't consider herself worth saving.

    Volume 6
  • The cover illustrates a young Eve being comforted by her older sister Lydia, but what makes this more sad than heartwarming is the fact that Lydia in Akashic Records Volume 16 claims she doesn't know about Eve which just makes you wonder what happened to Lydia. On top of that Eve on the cover is only 15 and yet wears a military uniform which just shows how harsh her household is.
  • "Inheritor of the Flame": Bernard stated that Eve had a harsh childhood, and this story shows it fully.
    • Eve first lived alone with her mother, Sheila Distore, who lost her job at the Ignite House while being pregnant with Eve. Despite the problems in her life she always loved her daughter and even died to save her from an evil magician. This causes Eve to live with her father, Azel le Ignite, but instead of a warm welcome from her biological father, he instead calls her a spare in case something would happen to her half-sister, Lydia. Yet despite this Eve still wants her father's recognition which she knows is more or less hopeless.
    • According to Lydia, the Ignites were originally a more noble family who always helped others while respecting their allies, but after her father, Azel, took over. They became known as cold-hearted merciless people who use others as pawns for their own glory. However, while the house did get more recognition, they also became hated by other nobles which would eventually cause the family's destruction which Lydia wants to prevent. This also gives a whole other sad perspective in the present as to why Eve still wants to be accepted by her former household since instead of her father's recognition, she wants to help Lydia's ideal come true.
    • The villains of the story are victims of Azel's reign of terror with one's household being ruined, their family falsely accused, or in the case of the ring leader seeing his entire village killed. Sadly instead of going after Azel directly, they instead chose to attack the innocent Eve, which forces Lydia to kill them to save her sister. Their leader's last words aren't even words of spite, but a simple sad plea to his deceased parents.
    • Lydia saves Eve by sacrificing her own magic, especially since she tells that Eve now inherits her will cause she finds herself unworthy due to being unable to save her other sister.
    • After Lydia's sacrifice, Eve worked hard to uphold their dream of saving the Ignite family from their destruction, but the harsh training and treatment causes her to forget them and become the cold-hearted person she is today.
    • The implication is that one of the reasons why Eve does not get along with Glenn is because his innocent ideals remind her of Lydia's.

    Volume 7
  • "Cinderella of the Secret Night"
    • While it's mostly funny and heartwarming to see Glenn and Eve get along although they don't know each other's identity. It's still a bit sad to know they could have been great friends or possibly even more if it wasn't for their current circumstances.
    • Eve almost breaks down and tries to attack the rude customer, who forces her to serve him, after he gives a scathing and sadly somewhat accurate Breaking Speech to her. Thankfully, Glenn attacked him before she could and exposes his identity to everyone instead.

    Volume 10
  • "Lost Last Word": This story finally showcases the events that lead to Sara's death:
    • Glenn became so weary from his life as a Mage Killer that he wanted to quit before the mission against Jatice began only to stay for the sake of Sara for whom he just realized his feelings and decided to at least do everything he can to save her.
    • Azel stops Eve from sending Albert to help Glenn and Sara against Jatice due to his dismissing the claims of a "third-rate" magician. Eve is horrified at her inability to defy his orders and can only pray that Glenn will somehow find a way for them to miraculously survive like he always does.
    • On their end, Glenn and Sara are overwhelmed by the hordes of Angel Dust addicts while wondering why Eve hasn't sent Albert to help them. Due to the agitation of their desperate survival and not knowing of Azel's obstruction, Glenn only believes that Eve essentially left them for dead, which even Sara, who is genuinely friends with Eve, is unable to refute.
    • Sara, who is already mortally wounded at the hands of Angel Dust addicts, uses the last of her strength to cut off Jatice's arm allowing Glenn to pull the finishing blow on him. She then dies in Glenn's arms, completely breaking his heart, which made him unable to even visit her funeral.
