• In general, at least half of the boss fights in this game have personal connections with at least one of the player characters, and if you know what the characters are saying (or playing the City Connection or EXA LABEL versions, which have subtitles), it's heartbreaking to watch as the Player Characters beg the enemy to come to their senses, but of course, as this game is a Shoot 'Em Up, they have no choice but to kill their former allies and family who disowned them.^note You can simply time out a boss, but they will self-destruct and go through the same sequence as if you killed them with your own two hands.
• When Shion and Suzuran encounter the latter's brother Aogiri at the end of Stage 3, they find that he's renounced his old name and now calls himself Shakunage. Sadly, trying to talk sense into him predictably doesn't pan out, and he only has his Heel Realization when he dies. When the next stage begins, Suzuran is still distraught and crying out for her now-dead brother.
  Shion: Cheer up, Suzuran.^{EXA LABEL translation} Don't lose faith, Suzu.
  Suzuran: (sobbing) B-Brother...
• The Final Boss fight against Emperor Basho, if playing as his children Botan and Kikyou. Unlike the other two pairs who make relatively generic "We'll stop you and end your reign of terror" (paraphrasing) speeches, Kikyou expresses disgust with their now-Ax-Crazy father while Botan pleads with him to stop, to which Basho simply responds that they're no longer family. Botan and Kikyou are forced to kill their own insane father.^note The following text is from the City Connection translation
  Kikyou Saionji: Look at you, old coot! You're nothing more than a savage brute now!
  Botan Saionji: Father, please! Stop this!
  Basho: We're no family anymore!
• Tsubaki and Sumire's ending. Tsubaki stabs himself dead with the Blood Katana so that Sumire can come back to life. But Sumire can't imagine living without him, and instead joins him.
  Sumire: You were my living hope, Tsubaki. You always cared... Even as a spirit, I like I could make it, as long as we were together... I've lost the one person I could count on... Tsubaki...I couldn't find another way... Forgive me...
  (Sumire stabs herself with the Blood Katana)
  Sumire: Finally, I can be with you...our blood united. We'll be together forever, Tsubaki...
