  • More recent episodes of The Unbiased History of Rome have openings inspired by anime openings:
  • "The Roman Republic": When Camillus makes a glorious return then appears right behind Brennus just as the latter was trying to make off with the gold he took: "Omae wa mou shindeiru!"
  • Caesar's reaction to Pompey's head being presented to him in Egypt: "HE WAS A CONSUL OF ROME!"
  • The introduction of "The Mad Emperors" is styled after the Oblivion intro.
  • When Augustus found out that his daughter Julia was a degenerate whore when Tiberius says he's getting away from her, Augustus told her "Degenerates like you belong on a cross!"
  • Once Nero becomes emperor, Nero's theme from Fate/EXTRA starts playing in the background. (Incidentally, that Nero is a busty blonde in a red dress... as Caligula's wife Caesonia is portrayed in the same video).
  • When the Romans came to collect their inheritance from the late king of the Iceni tribe, they were disgusted with how polluted the gene pool was. When they were present, they saw the Briton inhabitants cosplaying as House Stark.
    • Emperor Valerian is also represented as having silver hair and violet eyes, owing to his name sounding like "Valyrian".
  • Primus' dialogue includes a Latinized version of "Autobots Roll Out" and "Autobots Purge Out. He is also depicted as having Optimus Prime's helmet instead of a normal helmet.
  • The section on Commodus is partially a retelling of the plot to Gladiator, with some of his recorded antics mixed in, then the following episode the recap reverted to the more common portrayal among contemporary historians, only with Commodus being Chad:
DH: (chuckles) Just fucking kidding! (holds up a copy of Gladiator that was made into a book) The historian Ridley Scott already debunked all this garbage!
  • Historian Cassius Dio is represented as a Freedom Ain't Free bear dressed as Dio Brando.
  • Instead of an anime opening, "Diocletian's Tetrarchy" opens to the style of Friends' intro.
  • In gratitude for his defense of Londinium from the Franks, the Britons named Constantius "Redditor Lucis Aeternae".note
  • Attila's declaration at the end of "Barbarians at the Gates" was his words in the announcement trailer of Total War: Attila
  • The montage where Aetius shaped up his men to face the imminent Hun invasion was to "I'll Make a Man Out of You"
  • Attila's speech to Aetius is a copy of the Lich's speech to Finn in Adventure Time.
  • Inside of Khosrow's evil city of Ganzak, in the shrine of Adur Gushnasp, Heraclius and the Byzantines soldiers encounter a great statue of Khosrow as a demonic entity holding the world in his clutches. Anyone who played The Elder Scrolls Online can see that it's an edited statue of Molag Bal.
Chad Soldier: Found this near a time machine, check this translated Barbarian speech..
Pleb Soldier: I don't get it...
    Heraclius: God is still alive!
Chad Soldier: Oh you wouldn't like the notes I found next to it...
Martina: Jesus.. it reads like whoever wrote this only had sex once, and it killed him.
    • Shahrbaraz, one of Khosrow's henchman, is visually based on Nosferatu Zodd.
