- Upon slaying Big Boss; Ted announces "Looks like meat's back on the menu, boys!".
- While the Mane 6 and Discord are searching the Everfree for Vulcan's lair, Discord starts channeling Steve Irwin. Certain ponies are not amused.
- During Ted/Vulcan's interrogation, there's this exchange:Celestia: In all of your actions thus far, I am yet to discern any sort of plan.
- During his prison time, Ted is starting to compare himself to Hannibal Lecter and fights off the temptation of refering to Celestia as "Clarice"
- In the battle in the Everfree Forest, Vulcan keeps comparing King Sombra to Lord Voldemort. He even starts thinking that Sombra's plan with the Tree of Harmony would be using it to "give himself a new body a la Goblet of Fire".
- Vulcan shouts "Fus Ro DAH!" and tosses a unit of Royal Guards off a cliff.
- One of the villains Celestia and Luna took out in Ages Past was Count Dragon Son of The Land Beyond The Forest, who enjoyed impaling dissenters on his horn.
- Vulcan's apprentice from the criminals he recruits is named Artful Dodger. Vulcan lampshades this, but doesn't explain the joke.
- He references The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings at one point... and apparently doesn't think much of either, though his reasons for doing so have long been debunked by anyone with more than a passing familiarity with them.
- When Eiderdown agrees to serve Vulcan in payment for his enacting revenge on Cirrus and Hilltop for her and her friends, she opens with "What is thy bidding, my master?" It takes all of Ted's willpower not to burst out laughing.
- There's a particularly dumb Diamond Dog named Mongo, who laments at one point that he's "just pawn in cruel game of life".
- Vulcan comments that Wolftooth, the leader of the tooth breezies, sounds like the Swedish Chef.
- At one point, Vulcan negotiates with a group of pony gangsters led by a guy named Boss Hoss.
- In chapter 39, Button Mash is mentioned. And Apple Bloom comments that "last week in art class he covered himself in glue, rolled through the craft materials and ran around yelling that he was a Katamari Damashi."
- In the same chapter the CMC start to playfuly tease Spike and, at one point, Apple Bloom says that "she thought he was her sweet baboo". Later on..Apple Bloom: Oh SpiiiikeSpike: I'm not your boyfriend!!
- One of Vulcan's minotaur minions is called Ironhide.
- Vulcan mentions that the only way he'd visit Canterlot High is if he hid in the rafters at the prom with a bucket of pig blood.
- One of the tomes Vulcan obtained after the heist belongs to Krastros the Glue Maker.
- During the Summoning, Pinkie wishes for someone with no allergies, because she doesn't want their champion to take one bite out of a muffin and keel over.
- Leo recites the Knights Oath from Dragonheart.
