The Say It stories contain a number of references to other media, including:
Say It Thrice
- "Drop dead." "Too late."
- When Sam is giving directions, she says to "head down Elm Street and turn onto Craven Lane."
- Lydia mentions The Bee Gees.
- At one point, Betelgeuse changes Barbara's outfit into the dress Jessica Rabbit wore.
- Tucker compares Betelgeuse's Death Glare to the guy from The Shining.
- In the flashback of Sanduleak and Betelgeuse, the latter remarks that Bram Stoker's new book reminds him of Sanduleak.
- "The morning is evil."
- Sanduleak: "Last time I dealt with a woman with spirit, she managed to turn my own blade against me and had her brother help toss my body in the river afterwards."
Say It Again
- "So... who talks first? I talk first? You talk first?"
- "A little dark, a little gloomy, and - hey! As always, full of dead people."
- Lydia invites Betelgeuse to accompany her to an old theater which is running classic horror movies each week, starting with The Exorcist - one of his favorites, of course.
- Lydia's English class takes turns telling ghost stories shortly before Halloween, and one girl, Laura, is described in the narrative as being "great at telling stories." The character in question is named after Lady Norbert, who is a friend of the author's.
