- When starting a bar fight, Luke says, "I'll probably get sued by purpleeyeswtf for this, but COME AT ME, BRO!"
- GM is relentlessly mocked over how Captain Morgan's name sounds like a drink, as well as his bad Terminator impressions.
- When Luffy and Buggy go at each other You Fight Like a Cow style, Natalie complains that insult swordfighting should require actual swords.
- Later, after receiving multiple Groin Attacks, Buggy proclaims he has "BALLS OF STEEL".
- During the Devil's Tower arc, Luffy and Nami quote the Big Damn Heroes exchange from Firefly word-for-word, in-character.
- Strip 229 during the same arc has two in rapid succession, as Ganzack and Luffy have part of the Black Knight's exchange with King Arthur before Ganzack channels Scorpion.
- A bit of a stretch, but given that Cory gave Zoro the Blood Vengeance flaw seven times... Avenged Sevenfold?
- As soon as they realize Usopp has a retractable grappling hook, Luke, Phil and Cory immediately start singing "Na na na na na na na na na, Batman!"
- When Rika and Phil are confused about whether or not they're all on the same side, DM comments that they've clearly never played Paranoia.
- GM accuses Cory of trying to get away with his multi-racial power build by having three parents. In the webcomic Chainmail Bikini, the resident powergamer tried this trick.
- After Cory reveals that DM would have her characters turn evil and wipe out the party even before she became a Killer Game Master, Luke asks her, "Wait, were you that guy with the hawk helmet all along?"
- Here, an exasperated Cory quotes one of the adages from "Never Split the Party."
- This comic references DMSO and "The Squirt Gun Wars".
- The whole "A raccoon came in" running gag is likely a reference to a similar scene from Friends involving Joey.
