References within the OST

  • INTERNET OVERDOSE and its PV alone has many, many references to media, mostly from the '80s and the '90s:

    • The dance she does is similarly the Parapara, a repetitive dance done with a stoic expression to Eurobeat music.
    • The line 'I can see a lie for a lie' (ウソはウソだと見抜けるし) is a reference to the Neo-Mugicha incident, or more specifically the statement made by Hiroyuki, founder of Japanese image board 2channel 'It's difficult to use a message board if you can't see a lie for a lie' (嘘を嘘と見抜ける人でないと(掲示板を使うのは)難しい).
    • The lines 'It's bad for you, don't drink it. It's bad for you, but you're still going to drink it' is part of the description of the 2005 adult game Drugs Dreaming (ユメミルクスリ).

Vocaloid references

  • The descriptions to some of the endings:
    • "There Are No Angels": lyrics from wowaka's "World's End Dancehall". The lyrics are often interpreted by fans as two girls being Driven to Suicide just like what KAngel does in this ending.
Hop and step, may I have this dance? This is the world's end, shall we do the “one, two”?
    • "Nymphomania": another wowaka lyric, this time from "Two-Faced Lovers".
A perplexing thing called love took over, and then I couldn't keep my heart-space from splitting in two.

The bond between us has finally broken. There's too much unspoken, we're falling so far apart.
    • "Rainbow Girl": title and description are from a song of the same name, which was originally written by an anonymous user on 2chan and saw some popularity among Vocaloid fans.

KAngel: El Psy Kongroo. I love that game, but it's got way too many sequels lol.

Video Game references

Other

  • "Bomber Girl": the description calls back to an old Japanese meme "リア充爆発しろ!" which is basically a euphemism for telling well-adjusted individuals to go and die. ("Ria-juu bakuhatsu shiro!" – literally, normie go explode!)
    P-chan go explode
  • KAngel loves Tokusatsu genre and has a henshin belt with her.
  • A few to Fight Club:
    • The description for the "Comment te dire adieu" achievement is a reference to a quote from Fight Club, replacing "life" with "perfect adieu".
This is your perfect adieu... good to the last drop.
    • One of the movies Ame can watch on Mediflicks is about a "secret club for fighting you should definitely never talk about".
    • One discussion stream has "Jack's desire" in the title.
Rule one of KAngel's streams, you do not talk about the streams
  • In a random JINE event where Ame asks P-chan what kind of girl they would like her to be, P-chan's reply choices also explicitly reference some TV Tropes, such as Robot Girl, Blob Monster, and Gotta Kill Them All.
  • In a much darker version of this, Ame's suicide in the "There Are No Angels" ending seems to take from a real-life tragedy, namely the death of Rorochan1999. Roro was a streamer who took her own life on-stream by jumping off the balcony of her family's apartment, due to a combination of depression and people on 2ch egging her on and fuelling her belief that committing the act would result in her becoming a "legend".
  • During the stream where Ame helps her viewers fall asleep, she ends up falling asleep herself, and one of the comments is "KANGEL YOUR STICKS!" This is a reference to a popular Tumblr post where the original poster claims to be taking a nap, and asks that his followers wake him in 5 minutes so he can flip his french toast sticks in the oven, leading to the comment "RANDY YOUR STICKS!!".
