A Wild Badfic Appeared! Commentaries is full of references, often courtesy of Erika, whether to video games Nintendo and non-Nintendo, memes, and pop culture in general. Due to the sheer amount of them, a new page was needed.
Mishonh from God
- Even before the actual commentary begins, Erika claims that she will commentate "with the snarkiness of The Nostalgia Critic and enthusiasm of PeanutButterGamer!"
- Every episode begins with the Pokémon anime title card theme playing and a player selection screen, including a short "voice clip" of each character as they get called. And when a new party member joins, the "Challenger Approaching" screen from Super Smash Bros appears.
- The Final Fantasy victory theme seems to have become a recurring riff of sorts.
- One of Ness's catchphrases is Good night! Ev'rybody!", whenever the fic makes a typo that sounds lewd; which is a lot.
- Sonic: Speaking of, I wonder what’s for dinner? *insert CD-i meme here*
- The Philips CD-i games are referenced again in Episode 4.
- And once again in Episode 6, this time to Hotel Mario:
- Pit: *Mario impression* I hope she-a cooked lotsa spaghetti!
- Once in the first episode, Erika cues "derpy music from Banjo-Kazooie"
- Episode 2 gives us spinning blue hares on a psychedelic background and equally psychedelic music cued by "Like these?!", much like in JonTron's Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts review, only with logs.
- Another JonTron reference:
- Erika: I didn't type that folks, it's just Fffffflipping Pacman!
- Another JonTron reference:
- At the beginning of Episode 2, there is The Penguins of Madagascar theme, and Erika and Ness singing along to the song "These Are The Days" by Just Left.
- (Erika: WWEEOOOOOHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!)(Ness and Sonic: *join in* OOHHHHH!!!!!)
- Erika states that the religious propaganda "is as terribad as Twitch Plays Pokémon and the Lord Helix mythos!"
- Robin also references Severus Snape; apparently, he read Harry Potter between episodes.
- "KHHHHAAAAANNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!"
- "Marth, I am your father!" Naturally, no one with the possible exception of Ness gets it.
- In Episode 3, Erika says "What atwist!"
- Ness references Team Fortress 2 at the mention of "Blu team". To which Erika responds "Wait, why do you know about that?"
- This in response to the "I only eat vegetas" line.
- Erika jokes about the Streetpass "Lonk from Pennsylvania" meme in Episode 4. And then repeatedly afterwards whenever Link's name is misspelled like that.
- Erika, only a few lines later, also jokes about the "Mr.Hans" spelling mistake, also hinting something Frozen related for the next episode; which turned out to be a Herdier Alternate Universe version of Kristoff.
- In Episode 5, there are multiple references to CinemaSins, with the familiar formula of short remarks followed by a "ding!" sound. In Episode 6, even staples of the series, like "that's racist", start being used.
- Also in Episode 5, there is a remark about the room in Subspace Sara's crew having all the gays in it being "level 5.5 of Impel Dawn".
- At the beginning of the episode, Erika calls Mega Man a "super-fighting robot".
- Three Stooges Shout-Out: In episode 6, Sudz clonks Erika and Calem's heads together at the mention of "stooge".
- Pit:"Those darn Blue Shells!"
- Erika: You’re a mean one~ Sara-Sue~ Your eeeggggooo iiiisss like Ridley… You are such a haughty numbnut, your vainness dwarfs Dedede’s, Sara-Suuuuueee!
- Whenever the story misspells "excited" as "excite", Erika will add "truck" at the end of it.
- After two lines which seemingly stick the names of animals onto movie characters (namely "VADER FROG" and "Mutt Rambo"), Erika jokes "Is this what famous movie characters are called in Zootopia?" This, along with a misspelling of "Link" as "Luke" and the debut of Calem's Sylveon Claude, gave the episode the title of " Zootopian Star Wars! Do the Easter Sylveon Hop!"
