Omar is a poor Italian boy of Senegalese descent. He lives in public housing within part of a Milan suburb called the Barrio, whose population are mostly of immigrant background. Though it's economically depressed, he and the other residents love their home, but are threatened by gentrification, with a building developer set on buying the area up which they fear will result in rental prices being raised beyond their means.

Omar lives with his father and younger sister Awa, working as a pizza delivery boy. He is shy to the point of invisibility, at odds with his father frequently but close to Awa. Omar crosses Sharif and his friends, who like him are African-Italian, being wrongly blamed for a rash of crimes which has broken out in the Barrio. Desperate to escape, Omar finds he can turn invisible. He befriends Sharif and co. after this, fighting the forces threatening the Barrio while also starting a romance with Anna, a rich white Italian girl while exploring his ability.

A Netflix Original, the series was released on 21 April 2021. It was canceled after one season.

Tropes:

  • Affectionate Nickname: Sirenetta is the nickname Anna's dad uses for her. He named his company after it too.
  • Awful Truth: Anna discovers that her dad is paying criminals to wreck the Barrio, so its properties will be worth less and he can buy them up cheaply then evict all the residents.
  • Broken Pedestal: Anna had looked to her dad as a source of inspiration, the person who taught her values, so she's heartbroken on discovering that he's corrupt to the point of being in bed with a gang.
  • The Cavalry: Anna flees her kidnappers after Omar freed her, then the police arrive to arrest them all, called in by Sharif.
  • Character Title: The series is named after lead character Omar (it's his nickname).
  • Cliffhanger: The series ends on one which will never get resolved due to its cancellation. Omar can't turn off his invisibility and has left for Paris with Anna. A mysterious woman who is called The Virgin is aware of his invisibility, and introduced Awa to the fact she has an ability too, who inadvertantly harmed or perhaps killed a girl after seeing her boyfriend cheating with her. The Virgin appears to be connected with whoever is behind Ricci, and interested in Omar.
  • Damsel in Distress: Anna gets kidnapped in the series finale and Omar has to rescue her.
  • Distressed Dude: Omar, after rescuing Anna from her kidnappers, is overpowered by one and in grave danger before she hits the guy over the head with a chair.
  • Emotional Powers:
    • At first Omar can only turn invisible when he's very emotional.
    • Awa's ability is also triggered when she sees her boyfriend is kissing another girl.
  • Engineered Public Confession: Omar tries to do this, getting Rico and Mr. Ricci on video discussing their illegal dealings while he's invisible, but Rico gets the recording back. However, it turns out this was added to the cload, so the police arrest them later.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Rico, the Cuban criminal who's the leader of the violent gang terrorizing the Barrio for a greedy developer, is also a family man with a wife and daughter who he clearly loves. Mr. Ricci, who hired him, is Anna's father and also shows obvious love for her.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Mr. Ricci is greedy enough to have criminals mess up the Barrio so prices on the properties there will be driven down. However, he never told them to burn stores and kill people, berating gang leader Rico about this (but it may be pragmatic concern as this draws more attention too).
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Omar is at first at odds (violently) toward Sharif and his friends. However, once they discover he's not behind the criminal acts which have hit the Barrio and he can turn invisible, he becomes fast friends with them while they fight the true culprits.
  • Friend to Psychos: Mr. Ricci is a legitimate businessman who's a property developer. To drive down prices on the properties he's aiming for, he has criminals wreck the neighborhood.
  • Invisibility: Omar discovers he can turn himself invisible, at first only if highly emotional, then later at will. Anyone who he touches will also turn invisible with him.
  • The Man Behind the Man: It turns out that Ricci is just the front man while he has even more powerful and wealthy unknown backers.
  • Missing Mom: Omar mom has been gone for years, after the police in Senegal took her away. His father claims this was to protect Omar from her, but details are unrevealed.
  • Never My Fault: Ricci refuses to take any responsibility for his wrongdoing at the end.
  • No Full Name Given: The forenames of Anna's parents are never revealed.
  • Power Incontinence: Omar initially can't control his invisibility, and even after being able to mostly it's not always completely reliable, failing sometimes at the worst possible time. He's unable to turn off later this in the series finale, leaving him stuck invisible at least temporarily.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Ricci is let out of police custody at the end as a result of his high connections in Milan.
  • Shared Family Quirks: Omar and his sister Awa, whose family is from Senegal, both have relationships with white Italians.
  • Their First Time: Omar and Anna have sex, which is at least his first (not hers).
  • True Companions: By the end of the series, Omar is close enough with Sharif, Momo, Sara and Inno they may as well be his family, which isn't surprising as they went through so much as a group.
  • Uptown Girl: Omar falls for Anna. She's a very rich girl, while he comes from a poor neighborhood named the Barrio in Milan.
  • Wrong Side of the Tracks: Omar and his family live in a very poor section of Milan called the Barrio. There are criminal gangs that prey on people, and the poor residents are in danger from eviction if gentrification happens (it turns out they're linked-the developer has hired some criminals to mess the place up so property prices will go down).
