Tyler Perry's Young Dylan or simply Young Dylan is a 2020 Nickelodeon Kid Com created by filmmaker and producer Tyler Perry. The series stars Dylan Grimer as the titular character Dylan, a young aspiring rapper. After his mother abandons him one day, his grandmother Viola (Aloma Wright) helps moves him in with his aunt and uncle's and cousin's clean-cut suburban home. The Wilson household is turned upside down when their more conservative and clean-cut style meeats Dylan's bold, street-smart attitude.
The series features Dylan's uncle and aunt Myles (Carl Anthony Payne II) and Yasmine (Mieko Hillman), and his cousins Rebecca (Celina Smith) and Charlie (Hero Hunter). Bethany (Jet Miller) is Rebecca's best friend and Dylan's crush.
This series has the following tropes:
- Adorably Precocious Child: Young Dylan is streetwise and tough, but he is still only 8 years old. The pilot episode sees him trying to explain to Charlie about the birds and the bees, but he thinks the act itself is only french kissing.
- Fish out of Water: Young Dylan lived in the city, and now is in the suburbs which is not ready for his brashness.
- Imaginary Friend: Charlie has one, much to Rebecca's embarrassment.
- In Case You Forgot Who Wrote It: The show's full title is Tyler Perry's Young Dylan, named for Tyler Perry who created it.
- Obnoxious In-Laws: Myles's mother Viola is clearly not a fan of his wife, Yasmine.
- Recycled Premise: This show is basically The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air except with a more child-friendly focus.
