A British Period Medical Drama that follows staff members of St. Aidan's Royal Free Hospital in the 1960s and the surrounding area.

The show features Julian Ovenden, Zoie Kennedy, Robert Daws, Amy Robbins, Wendy Craig, and Ian Carmichael.

It aired for 8 seasons on ITV.

Tropes for the series:

  • Alliterative Name: Marian McKaig.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Mr. Rose is a pompous, no-nonsense Insufferable Genius, but he still cares about the well-being of his patients and sometimes shows a softer side outside of the operating room. Matron counts too, since she is both strict and supportive to her nurses.
  • No Name Given: Major character known only as Matron.
  • One-Word Title:
    • Crash.
    • Consequences.
    • Poison.
    • Cliffhanger.
    • Reckoning.
    • Fever.
    • Scabs.
    • Laura.
    • Manoeuvres.
  • Period Piece: Takes place during the 1960s.
  • Revolving Door Casting: The hospital staff changes all the time, both during and between seasons. Seven main characters have made it from the premiere to the finale, but considering there's been over 30 main characters over the eight-season run with a dozen or so at a time, that's not a lot. The show has a bit of a tradition where nurses and younger doctors come and go.
