The Movies That Made Us contains examples of:
- Deadpan Snarker: the narrator and interviewers fill this role with joy.
- It Will Never Catch On: Interestingly, the people making the first Friday the 13th never thought anyone would ever see it, let alone that it would blow up like it did.
- Spin-Off: Of The Toys That Made Us. It also got a brief one called "The Christmas Movies That Made Us" which covered Elf and The Nightmare Before Christmas but both episodes were merged back into the main "Movies That Made Us".
- Talking Heads: As per the norm with documentary series, there are plenty of sit-downs with people involved in production of the movie to share their stories.
