Series / Storage Wars: Canada

Go To

Storage Wars: Canada is the third spinoff of Storage Wars and the first international version of the show. Like the shows before it, it follows some locker room buyers hoping to make some cash. The series features six buyers: Roy Dirnbeck (The Instigator), the pair of Cindy Hayden and Rick Coffill (The Veterans), Ursula Stolf (The Knock Out), and the father-son team of Paul and Bogart Kenny (The High Roller and The Kid).

This series provides examples of:

  • Accidental Bid: One moment from "Crazy from the Heat": last locker of the day and it's pretty bad. Then Cindy starts fanning herself and Don takes it as a bid for 200 on it.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: When Roy hires security guards to intimidate the other pickers, one of the guards picks up Ursula to move her out of the way. Ursula tells the guards off, but ends up cracking up laughing.
  • Because I'm Good At It: Roy has a successful courier business and is only storage room hunting for bragging rights.
  • Book Dumb: Bogart isn't exactly bright, but has more common sense when it comes to picking lockers than his father.
  • Catchphrase: Whenever Ursula wins a locker, she goes "That's how it's done!"
  • Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: The buyers each have their own color nameplate when bidding
    • Ursula-Red
    • Paul and Bogart-Yellow
    • Rick and Cindy-Blue
    • Roy-Green
    • Guests-Grey
  • Confession Cam: Just like its parent show, with it being used not only for the standard talking shots, but to punctuate jokes with one of the buyers' reactions.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Cindy, Ursula and Bogart.
  • Diet Episode: One episode has Bogart putting his dad on a diet in preparation for his wedding. Needless to say, Paul is complaining the whole time.
  • Enemy Mine: Occasionally, the bidders team up, despite their usual animosity
    • With Paul out sick, Bogart teams up with Ursula to pick a locker, to a small loss
    • In the series finale, Roy's scheme being more expensive than expected forces him to team up with Ursula. Despite some Teeth-Clenched Teamwork, they manage to make a profit.
    • In a non auction related example, Roy gets a ride from Cindy and Rick when he's late for an auction, and Cindy and Rick enlist his help when Cindy is learning to drive.
  • Everyone Hates Mimes: "Confessions of A Dangerous Mime" has Roy bringing a mime to the auction which naturally annoy everyone.
  • Expy: The buyers bare a striking resemblance to the New York cast:
    • Roy/Mike: Smart businessmen who agitate other buyers
    • Cindy and Rick/Joe P: Long time auction hunters who usually win big in the auctions
    • Ursula/Candy and Courtney: Female newcomers with a preference for fashion
    • Paul and Bogart/Chris and Tad: Store owner teams who can't seem to get along all the time
  • Family Business: Paul and Bogart's business
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Roy.
  • The Gambling Addict: Paul used to be a professional poker player before going into the auction business, which usually means trouble for Bogart since Paul has a nasty habit of bidding way too much for storage lockers.
  • Going Cold Turkey: "Cold Turkeys" has Cindy and Rick attempting this, with mixed results.
  • Hidden Depths: Occasionally, when one of the buyers is used as an expert, these come up.
    • Don, the Only Sane Man auctioneer, is a collector and expert of Pepsi merchandise
    • Paul, the Cloud Cuckoolander risk taking buyer, is an expert on coins and Canadiana.
    • Though not shown in the series, an interview revealed that Ursula has two bachelor degrees, and a master's in Education.
  • Hyperventilation Bag: In "London Storage is Falling Down", Ursula stumbles upon a container full several designer bags, prompting her to breathe into a bag at the confession cam.
  • The Key Is Behind the Lock: Bogart, Paul and Barry (Paul's brother) had a hard time opening a locked suitcase from a locker Barry had bought, only to find a set of lock picking equipment inside
  • Must Have Caffeine: It's Canada, so naturally everyone loves coffee, but none more so than Roy. He's been seen drinking a box of Tim Hortons coffee note . Cindy and Rick aren't far behind.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Bogart, after Humphrey
  • Precision F-Strike: After Cindy accidentally buys a locker in "Crazy from the Heat":
    Cindy: F- this fan.
  • The Rival: Ursula vs Cindy.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: Bogey walks out on Paul after one too many bad purchases. Ultimately, they do end up reuniting.
  • The Stinger
  • The Unseen: The people who chaperone Cindy and Rick to their auctions who, unless their daughter has tagged along for the day, are usually off camera and never referred to.
  • The Voice: Martin Yap narrates this incarnation and much like the buyers, plays up the humor more than Thom Beers does in the original.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Bogart and Paul have a hard time staying on the same page because of Paul's recklessness and Bogart's caution, but stick together because Bogey doesn't have the cash to compete on his own.
    • Any time the Kenny sisters show up at the auctions, this results between them and Bogart.
  • Tempting Fate: In "Com-Paul-sive Behavior", after the buyer wouldn't buy their furniture, Bogart thought it couldn't get any more humiliating. Sure enough...
    Paul: Welcome to Sofahenge!
  • Troll: Roy. From bringing bodyguards to the auctions to using an airhorn, he will do anything to piss off the other buyers.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: Paul and Bogart.
