Royal Tramp (鹿鼎记, Lù Dǐng Jì, also called "The Deer and the Cauldron" or "The Duke of Mount Deer") is a 2008 Chinese series starring Huang Xiao Ming and Wallace Chung. It's one of the many, many adaptations of The Deer and the Cauldron by Jin Yong.
Like the novel, the series revolves around Wei Xiao Bao and his adventures as the unwilling pawn of both the emperor and the revolutionaries.
Contains examples of:
- A Minor Kidroduction: The series starts with Xiao Bao as a child.
- Anti-Hero: Wei Xiao Bao, like in the novel.
- Been There, Shaped History: A subplot features Wei Xiao Bao getting involved in Russian politics — specifically Sophia Alekseyevna's coup against her half-brother Pyotr.
- Historical Domain Character: Several of the characters were real people. The Kangxi Emperor
is the most notable one. - Son of a Whore: Xiao Bao, again like in the novel.
