Pro-Wres no Hoshi Azteckaiser ("Star of Pro-Wrestling Azteckaiser") is a 1976 Professional Wrestling-themed Toku show created by Go Nagai and produced by Tsuburaya Productions of Ultraman fame.

It follows Shun Takaba, a former pro-wrestler who quit the sport of wrestling to train to become Azteckaiser, a hero granted the incredible ability to transform by a mystical gem called the Star of Aztec. His enemies are the dark wrestling federation Black Mist, the ones who killed his brother, who seek to obtain the Star of Aztec for themselves to use it to become the strongest wrestling federation and take over the sport of wrestling forever.

The show was notable for Azteckaiser's power to, at the climax of each episode, transform everything into an anime in order to pull off over-the-top moves and feats that would be impossible in live-action.

Tropes:

  • As Himself: Antonio Inoki appears as himself at the end of the first episode.
  • The Heavy: Satan Demon is subservient to Luar, but as the manager of Black Mist he is the one who sends their wrestlers after Azteckaiser each week.
  • Medium Blending: This is one of Azteckaiser's superpowers. Every time he's about to defeat an evil wrestler, he shouts "Kaiser In" to transform the entire ring into an anime, before pulling off an extremely over-the-top and exaggerated wrestling technique to finish off his opponent.
  • Monster of the Week: The Cyborg Fighters, cyborg wrestlers sent out by Black Mist each episode.
  • Nebulous Evil Organization: The one for this Toku show is Black Mist, an evil wrestling federation known for using unfair tactics that is out to dominate the sport of wrestling.
  • Primary-Color Champion: Azteckaiser himself is red, dark blue and yellow.
  • Serious Business: Wrestling is a "sacred" sport and is taken very seriously by both Azteckaiser, who seeks to defend it, as well as the Black Mist, who seek to take over it, as well as other wrestlers.
  • Transformation Trinket: The Star of Aztec, a mystical artifact which allows Shun Takaba to become Azteckaiser, and is the Macguffin the villains seek to get their hands on.
  • You Killed My Father: Shun became motivated to fight Black Mist after one of their wrestlers killed his brother in a match.
